-I have a hen that only lays one egg,tha breeders have red grit and oyster shell available all the time,plenty of room,vitaminsand wormed,the only thing I do not do is medicate unless I have a sick bird then I med only that bird, ANY SUGGESTIONS?--------- Pat

Pat, the reason I asked I have had young and real old hens start the breeding season like that and around the third round they will start laying 2 eggs, if she is not sickley I would give her sometime to get her motor running some are just different! Pat, As Sal stated, if this is the beginning of your breeding season, I would give her some time, as she will probably start laying both eggs soon.. Is this her first year in the breeding loft?

Some time you will get a cock bird that will not drive the hen to lay the 2nd egg.Most cock will drive the hen crazy to lay the 2nd egg,

make sure they are breeding enough and make sure there is enough space for them to mate.-joe

Pat if you have another pair with eggs close to the same time. put The egg in with a proven good pair, they will raise three fine. Then in about 10 days she will most likly will Lay two eggs. ---------- Tapp

while we are on the subject of laying eggs one of my masons has stopped laying she is 4 years old havent had any problems with her being eggbound or anything else. any ideas what it might be or is it that she has just gone barren .cheers trev
