Hi all.
I'm new here and i am looking at getting into rollers . I am in Australia so does anybody know any breeders of quality birds in this country ? . What size /type of loft will i need ? . Planning on keeping around 8 pair of breeders and will keep around 40 birds to fly . Also i don't have much room and lots of large tree's around no real clear space would this be a problem for the birds?. Hope you guys can help with some info .
Cheers Mark.

Hey Mark, Surley the guys can answer a few questions for you. Practically everything is on a past post, so what help out the new guys with some free advice. For 8 pair I would build a cage 8X10 feet but you could easlily get by with 5X8 feet and keep the birds comfortable. You want a kit box for your young to train from. I made them 4X4X4 on legs with wire bottoms for poop to drop through. put the bob trap door close to the top. That is one thing I wish I would have done. like right at the top of the door, it is easier for the young birds to hop down on and get in. Use a day cage on top for training. Keep plenty of ventalation in the lofts. If you type in birm. rollers in Australia you will get some guys there with rollers to find out where they are to get you some birds. Go see their kits fly if possible as this is what you will be getting out of squeakers, flyers to breed or breeders. You can fly from any yard with trees. But try and keep the flying birds kit box in a spot where they can see it from the sky. You will be training birds when young and have something for them to see as a homing device helps as rollers don't have the homing instint that racing homers have. I paint circles on top of my flying kit boxes. You could put a big bulls eye in bright colors on your house roof. I might want to do that too since I need a new roof next year or two. Trees can harbor birds of prey and once flying you will learn from trial and error when not to fly if you lose some birds. Get Pensoms book from this site and have it mailed to you. It is a big help plus Tony has a book also. Good luck to you. Bill

Dragon Trev checks in here pretty regular try highlighting a new post saying "Australia help needed" that would catch is eye better. There are some fine roller men over there like Adrian Gasparini etc so you will find no trouble acquiring birds but I'm sure Trev will put you in the right direction. Bill thats some good help also. ---------- Regards W@yne UK
