IN YOUR OWN WORDS LETS HERE YOUR DESCRIPTION OF CLUB IN REFERENCE TO THE BIRMINGHAM ROLLER.

A GROUP OF PERSONS ASSOCIATED FOR A COMMON PURPOSE. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU?

A Club is a Social Group or Hobby...but most Brimingham Roller Clubs leave out the Brimingham Roller part...which is the hobby. Some club member show up just to be social or to say that they belong to a club. This type of social activity leads to DEAD WEIGHT IN A CLUB or alot of none flying members.ALL CLUB MEMBERS NEED TO SICK TOGETHER! and stop the back bitting. when you've seen a club member do good in the past ...think back what did you do? DID YOU HATE OR CONGRATULATE! When i won the world cup Ray Fisher was right there, it was like he won. REAL CLUB MEMBER! LET
2008 be the year for change in all clubs for the good of the hobby.P.S not all clubs need this just most.

thats what i'm talking about. even tho steve didn't actually win, It felt good to see him work so hard and come so far, so I gave him the perpetual trophy in recognition of his efforts. Some club members were a bit sour but i am stil the actual champion with the most over all points. that was my decission. but it is still all good. 2008 will be very exciting for all.

In my opinion a Club is a group of people who share a common interest and form an association. These associations can be formed for many different reasons and can often fall apart for many others! In my experience a Club that caters and listens to all members equally usually tends to succeed(members should never be made to feel left out or that their opinions have no value).

Excessive competition,Egos and envy amongst members usually hurt Clubs. Always be happy for your fellow Club members who accomplish something!!!DON'T HATE!Those who continually place high in comp...share your birds and knowledge.Sometimes our desire to be on top could bring about undesireable personality traits!

It's great to share, treat all with respect, help each other when needed and contribute as much as possible!

In a perfect world, that's how it would go BUT unfortunately for many Clubs.......we don't live in a perfect world!

wow....always been a backyard flyer, was thinking about joining a club,to make the experince more enjoyable with people who have a common goal(breed better birds). sounds like a bunch of drama 2 me, BIG EGOS,ENVY,HATERS,DEAD WEIGHT????
i always thought that the goal of a club was to have group a flyers who competed with eachother not against eachother to make the group better as a whole not a bunch of individuals!.......how disappionting.....well i guess bigbull wont be the only one flying solo in south l.a......

Rollernutz,
Dont get discuraged,
The roller club's,are like any other kind of club or organisacion, its made up of people like you and me,if you have 2 of your good friends and you make a club,it whould probably run smooth with harmony, but if each friend bring 2 friends and so on,you will see that your friends; friend's dont allways have the same personality as your friend.
therfore everyone need's to have a little respect for the club and the hobby and realize we all have one goal,to breed the best roller's we can and have clean competetive fun, dose always go smooth,no but its the club's responsability to make sure no one gets left out for any event or decicion. The club should be focused on the same track, eventualy new members will come and old will leave,as long as a good base stays the bad once will eventually cull themselves.
So Big Bull i think you should visit a few club flys before you throw in the tawel.Good luck. Hector Coya SGVS

Gabe,
Thats where "making the rounds" with the fly will improve his stock and overall performance. A man with some analytical skills can look at a set up and figure out a lot of things without having to ask. "Be the sponge." Just soak it up.

Some guys are free with their birds to new/struggling fanciers. I bet there are a lot of guys who have "traded" some birds to a newer guy,and the tradees didn`t make it past the first dumpster. Some guys will ask a new guy if he likes this bird or that one and give it to him.
Theres not a real "help out the new/struggling guy"program per se that I have seen. Thats just me.

Guys,

I think the good of a club out weighs any bad that you may find in a club. It also shows you where you stand in regards to your program and helps you to prepare your team for competitions. This way you can test what works or doesn't work in prep for fly day. This is a big plus if you fly in the world cup or fall fly.
Clubs are no different then any other parts of our life. There's bound to be one or two bad apples in the bunch. What the heck, you can have the same problems at your place of employement, your home or even the church you may attend.I feel it's all in the way you handle it. Just keep one thing in mind "WE ARE FLYING PIGEONS NOT EGOS".

As long as I have the time to participate flying with a club, I will. I enjoy competing and I compete to win. Joining a roller club is kind of like joining a bowling team. You compete against each other, but at the same time you are getting to do something you all enjoy together. I have got my ass whooped and handed back to me in a breeding bowl more times then I have won but I enjoy participating and do so when I have the time. Last year I flew a kit of squeakers in the world cup just so I could participate and help the region. I started my year out with a BIG FAT 0, but I had so much fun doing it I could not even sleep the night before. I enjoy going to other flyers homes and seeing there birds and I like it when they take the time to come and see what I bred up for the year. Club competition makes me work harder at breeding better birds and I think its done more to improve the birmingham roller as a breed then anything else. And yes, when Rod won the W/C it was like I had won too. To get to see one of your club members take the big prize home is a great feeling and it will always be a day that I remember.

Hey Ray,

That's what it's all about. I to got my ass whooped and handed back to me for several years in the west Coast Spinners. It didn't set well with me and made me want to improve and get better. I made it a mission to turn my program around and I think I'm headed in the right direction.I'm not where I want be but I think I've given myself a chance to get there. As long as I improve form one year to the next, I feel I'm headed in the right direction.

Hey Guys,

What a great topic. Many good opinions. Well here in Maryland our club MTS (Maryland True Spinners) we are just that a club on one accord. We do compete and compete hard, but nothing is taken personal. Who ever wins a fly is congratulated by the other member face to face. We actually enjoy each others company. We respect and honor one another as well as helping each other with thier birds and we help to build new or old members lofts. Even when a new member joins he/she generally falls in to line if you will. I guess what I am trying to say is once you are around a people long enough you'll become like them in many ways. Under know circumstances do we ask any one to put the club before thier family or job. These are just some of the things that hold our club together. Steve

A CLUB CAN BE VIEWED IN MANY ASPECTS. IT SHOULD ONLY SERVE 1 PURPOSE IN THE PIGEON HOBBY.... THATS TO GET A GROUP OF PEOPLE TOGETHER TO SUPPUORT ONE ANOTHER... (MAKE IT A HELPING ORGANIZATION FOR STRONG AND WEAK MEMBERS). EVERYONE NEEDS SUPPORT IN 1 WAY OR ANOTHER....ITS TOO MUCH BULLSH*T INVOLVED IN THE HOBBY TODAY. NOONE WANTS THE NEXT GUY TO DO GOOD.. EVERYBODY WANTS TO DO GOOD BY THEMSELVES.. WE NEED ALL THE HELP AND SUPPORT WE CAN GET FROM EACHOTHER IN ORDER TO KEEP THIS HOBBY STRONG. FOR EXAMPLE WHEN ALL THIS HAWK PROBLEM SHIT CAME TO THE SURFACE, THOSE WHO WAS INVOLVED WAS LEFT ALONE AND THERE WAS NO SUPPORT FOR THEM.. (IN MY EYES). THOSE GUYS DID WHATEVER THEY DID FOR ALL OF US....... THINK ABOUT IT...

Pigeon clubs soul purpose is suppose to be for a group of men and woman to come together and promote flying, and breeding of the birmingham roller pigeon and fellowshiping, sharing our experience, helping others who share our common interest. Club competition is for compairing and showing others in the hobby your ability in breeding, flying and manageing these beautiful birds. I have been in and out of flying birmingham rollers since 1967 and still am a back yard flyer that like the deep fast clean roller, but join a club because I still love to fellowship with others in this hobby I love. I love flying in clubs and have met people that just could not handle the pressure of being in one. Thats all good. Clubs are not for every flyer that fly's rollers. But there are some of us that thrive off of the competition side the club brings to the table. I see no problem with that and IM the type of person that thrives from the competition side. IM not a sore looser and will be the first to congratulate the winner. Its all fun, and its hard for me to understand why some get so upset about others competing. Just to have the opportunity to compete, this can make my whole day, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

i live for the compition!
i love being around guys that feel how i have felt about pigeons since i was a young boy.
i think once we start acting like women and talking behind eachothers back and stealing other people's birds we ruin the hobby and rape guys of their heaven! this is a gentlemens sport, we need to honor our bets and help the next man when we can.. we need create a club just for the haters and nay sayers and call it C.C.C.J.HRC
CAN'T TRAIN, CAN'T FLY, CAN'T BREED , JUST HATE ROLLER CLUB...LOL! then at least we know who we're dealing with..lol.........if this offends you ,you're a hater!

I met a roller guys 4 blocks from my house last year because he joined the NBRC, he had birds but wanted more so he could fly in 2008 in our local club, SGVS. I loaned him 2 more pairs to help him in his breeding. This guys has had birds a long time. I would say it really does help to join a club. It will always help the new and the old.

A club(group of people) should have unity without prejudice in the cultivation of the birmingham roller rather it is in the show pen or in the air and help each other if they might be lacking in some knowledge to bring them up to par with there knowlege so in the future they can make progress with there goals (the bottom line if you see another individual doing good don't hate find out what he knows so you can get same the results that they are getting).

thanks guy's

for the real dear words on being in a club.
as each day i fly my birds i tell my self .you birds are the best i've ever trained, because two years ago BOP worked
my birds so bad i stop flying and started breeding only.
neglecting my birds, like not feeding every day? more like every two days?well last year jan-07 i build a master walk in breed loft with three breeding rooms for my fostering pairs/and one out of the three rooms are for my rubys.with is going to be perfect because my rubys are 06&07 banded they are ready for breeding.i want to compete one of these days just getting the bird game back in tack.is alot of work.
