Sick, fine yesterday, not so fine today, but thats not the point. Started me thinking,(hard thing to do)are human diseases, germs, virus's, communicable to our birds? When we are sick can we in turn be infective to our birds? I am the primary cook in my household, after cooking for a fire crew for 20+ years, it's hard to give up. Should I be using an antibacterial soap before going to the loft,(before to protect the birds), after to protect me? Salmonella, for a point, from chicken eggs, fish, meat, then nasty hands into the loft to feed or handle. Any thoughts?

I think you should definately protect yourself 1st and then worry about the birds.Wear a respirator when cleaning(a good 1)the birds and immediatly toss the clothes you were wearing after cleaning your loft. Wash your hands everytime you go back in the house after being around the birds.I think we could pick up certain things from the birds depending on our immune system and health history.I for example had asthma when small so i try to be careful when cleaning my birds even though i don't have an inclosed loft.i'm prone to sinus infections.
