How many people actually get their birds back with the address bands? I use them myself but in the 7 years of using them, I think I only received about 15 call backs - three of those were to inform me that it was found dead in their yard. I don't recall ever getting a good one back with from call backs. 15 out of over 100 - is that a good percentage?
Some of things I have learn since using these bands: make sure you cut the name bands off a bird that flies high, a bird that you plan on culling in the near future - don't wait, and the wild ones. I hate having to drive the across town some times as far as 30 miles just to pick up a cull.
Thor
P.S. I have had just as many call backs on birds with out name, phone, etc. bands. All of which were calls from the Animal Rehab Center. Our Roller Club is registered under their directory. When ever a bird comes in with our Roller Club's band on, it is usually traced back to it's owner.
P.S.S. Knowing what I know, I still use them. Man, where is our common sense. Just like you know you are not suppose to kick them out in between the fog-etc, but you still do... go figure.

Address bands is a real sore subject with me, I use to band all my birds with address bands and I would only receive a phone call if the bird was injured, A waste of money, also a good friend of mine visited another roller fancier and saw one of my birds in his breeding loft like nothing, he gave me the band number and low and behold one of the birds I lost in an overfly, I rarely stray in any birds, and if I do I always try and find the owner! ---------- Dale SGVS

Address bands are pretty good. It's a good way to know fanciers out there. That was how I got into this hobby. I used to have all sorts of pigeons, modena, king size, etc, and when this solid black roller came in and land with my birds I was suprise the first time see a rolling pigeon. It was rolling its way to join my birds. I can tell that bird was lost. I caught it in my cage, sleeping with my other birds. And there was this black band on this bird, and it had a phone# on it, so I decided to call and get more information on this bird because I fell in love with it. A month after that, I cull and ate all my other birds and kept Birmingham Rollers ever since. There were some pretti kool guys I met when I was younger. I said to myself "If my birds can't do tricks like this rolling pigeon, I don't want to waste my time feeding them cheap pigeon, I want to feed those who will make me proud" .....
