Kel, I agree you can't beat a good screw gun for working on lofts.

Tou........I use the Deck-Mate screws, which are a coated screw that can easily be removed without the heads breaking off and use Gorilla Glue too. It all depends on what my projects are though. Both work very well in my loft projects...Have FUN

Gorrilla glue expands. Elmers carpenters wood glue is the best and holds the tightest.

If you guys aren`t using wood glue on your smaller carpentry projects you`re not doing it right. The glue will hold the pieces together a whole lot better then just nails or screws. Use a damp rag on the overage and it will come right off. A little goes along way.]

TOU....you can get the Gorilla glue at any hardwear store or at any lumber yard.On the label thier is a picture of a gorilla, just look for that.....lol. Like Home Depot,
Lowell's, Carter lumber places like these. I make all my V perches and I use Grilla glue. Just use it lightly. Alot goes along way.

Hello:

If you are building perches or nest boxes, use the elmers with either staples or nails or wood screws, they all work depending on the thickness of the wood. Like if you got a piece of 1/4" thick plywood and wanted to make some V-Perches. Put them together with a bead of wood glue & some small nails. Let them dry and install the next day. Same goes for nest boxes or anything else you need to make for the loft. I made all my nest boxes with 1/4" plywood, glue and 3/4" staples. The box perches were purchased at Jedd's, I made the nest boxes & the V-Perches.

Glenn,
I think I have seen a face on shot of your boxes. Are they the ones with the little slats on the front? They are pretty nice man. Of course I saw them AFTER I did all the dowel work. lol If you have a table saw thats an easy application bro. Furring strips are cheap.
nice digs

If you guys want to make a small investment, buy a table saw,a small compressor,a staple gun and a cordless drill. With these tools, you can build a loft, nestboxes, nestfronts and anything else you might need. Start checking garage sales and the pawn shops.
I see staple guns all of the time, and the little compressors. I bought a bosch worm drive circular saw for $100.00 and it was still practically brand new. Had it for three years now and use it every day.

Glenn,
I have an expansion project in the works. I will definitely be using that idea. My foster boxes are built like that except it is solid instead of the slats. Its kind of a pain looking around the corner. I see some wire in the future.

Sometimes it is hard to think outside the box.Thinking up something both easier and more efficient is usually a stroke of luck or a sudden thought that makes you say "Yeah thats IT!"
