I am starting to think that the legion of Men that are loyal to the breed as a performer is starting to decline.

While attending several flys in the So Cal area a few years ago I noticed the crowds getting smaller all the Time.

But while attending Lawn shows the crowds were growing and entries in the lawn show were bigger then ever.

Yea. The very first time that I went to this site in 2006, there wasn't that much people as of today. Today there are much more people out there. And I like it because that tells me that I'm not alone. I would have never met with Brain Mc, Johnny Smith, Hector Coya, and other fanciers out there if there wasn't for this site. Thank you Tony C. The Birmingham Roller career sure is expanding underneath our feet as we age. More and More young adults are getting to know this hobby and getting to actually meet with other fanciers. I'm just 21 and I'm loving it.

You are right George! The lawn shows are always packed. And when there's a fly going on you can count the amount of people there on two hands.lol... I think thats kinda backwards especially for a "Performing Breed" of pigeon.

I guess anyone can put our feathered friend in a show cage

but releaseing him to the air and training him to do what he was bred for is a different story.

I dont claim to be the best trainer or a good trainer but I always try to do better then the last time I entered a Fly
but one thing is for sure I will keep on trying.

George,
Showing is easy. Pick good type and markings with pretty colors and you stand a good chance. Flying great teams of rollers is hard work and takes lots of time and effort. This is exactly what Pensom and the old timers ran into in the past. History usually repeats its self. We fly guys have been on a good run but I think the pretty colors and the show pen are gaining ground once again,, just my honest opinion.. Good observation on your part. KGB

PS. All the air sharks are not helping the fly guys efforts either..

Your right on Ken, thats what I liked about the California Classic, and the PRA, when they had a table show you came with your best spinners. I remember when you had the Classic birds at your place, and the club flew some good kits and some of the birds were on the table before thy flew

I think all birds auctioned at shows should be flown before they can be auctioned off so that a persons knows what they are buying.

I think John Jones was the last guy to fly a kit then when it lands the auction started( man those were some deep birds).

This can easily be done just donate your birds ahead of time so the person who's house there having the show at can home them and Fly them.

In 2006 when I first qualified for the Fall Fly I had only been living in my current home for a month it took 12 days to home the Birds to my new place then I flew two weeks later.
So I know it can be done.

One reason for this is, the bops are increasing in numbers fast. When you breed and fly you are going to lose birds and many have. On the other hand, if you breed and show you lose no birds and put it in the show and have a chance to win a trophy. It is sad but true.
