you know guys i have been in this hobby for a long time and thou im starting all over. i know that i need to have some patience when it comes to this birds. first of all this is before you go looking for birds get in contact with your local flyers. next go to the flys and see who has the goods. then listen to those flyers. aswell ask questions if they cant give u an answer this site will be a good start. but before you ask go throu some of the hundreds of post first. because its getting old reading the same questions over and over again. first off type your question on the search roller-pigeon sign. read the post if these post dont answer your question by all means post up.
back to the chill factor: what i have noticed thou is that most nebies change famalies before a complete year is up. you cannot find out in one year what the famalies true potential truely is in one year. then you have some that have birds for longer than they should and are afraid to get rid of them because of sentimental value and cross better birds on to the poor famaly that are of no good. and then you have those that want to pocess better birds but are not willing to pay for them. i agree that some people are redicules with their prices but also they have put their time their efforts and names to back the birds up. to the nebie dont expect the best for free and dont curse the birds to your lack of understanding. it takes years of dealing with this little creatures to figure them out and even after all this curves are always given by nature.
most begginers have a better begining than most had when we first started out.be thankful for those in this hobby that keep their comitment to making it a better for everyone not just the newbie but the jurneyman. jerry higgins said it best be patient and put your time and sweat into it and it will reward you but NOT IN ONE YEAR. AND MAYBE NOT EVEN NEXT YEAR. just wanted this out your freind the sport CENTRAL.

you absolutely right,Central, you have to give that family time.you have to get know that family, might take 3 or 4 years, then you can blame the birds after you giving it your all. I point my finger at myself first .Then after that i do all the adjustment on myself.then i can decide what I have is no good or no good for me..... but I know I did and gave it my all.. Ralph....

Great post and information Central, I wish I had that type of advise when i started. If i had the chance I would have loved to pic three pairs of birds out of the air pay above what they are worth atleast you know what you have in your breeding coop.
The problem is not many guys out there that sell birds out of the air.
Seems like back in the 70s you could buy any spinner and it did what it need to do. These days I find there are alot more straight flying birds.
Like the sugestion about doing the question search first.
Thanks

lol sal. hey sometimes we need to take our own advise and use it. and for guys not selling birds in the air thats why i suggest that you join a club or go to the fly's and learn what you can. but also dont ask to purchase birds on the first fly or the second time.just show that you are sincere about wanting the best start possible. another point to take is if you get oferd birds from guys that dont have what you are searching for. do not and I DO REPEAT DO NOT ACCEPT THE BIRDS.but be polite about it just tell them what you are waiting for. it might happened that you might hurt their feelings but in the long run you would have saved yourself a long term dilema. and this brings me back to the reason that you might not get ahead because now you have to either breed from sub-birds and loose the time in which you would be breeding what you wanted instead. another thing guys dont be in a hurry to just get any birds for your breeding stud. if you are offered birds to fly by all means fly them while you search for your birds.in the mean while you have something to look forward to when you get home from work. i cannot state this enough PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE!!!!! good luck in your search and welcome all nebies.

not decriminating on anyone just wanted to let you guys know that the answers to most common qustions has been worned out and some people are less willing to give advice to the repeated questions thats is all. and as for how long i have had birds my first pair i got from a guy in sanfernando valley next to my aunties home he had hundreds all rollers and tumblers. this was back in 1983 in the summer. central.
