When viewing a kit of young birds or holdovers,i sometimes
hear a person say i'd like to see this team when they get older, that's if its a young team. i want to know what a person might have seen to say this, you being that person.
Also what are you looking for in a holdover team when your
viewing one.....LaRon, London, list.

Maybe that person thats says I would like to see that young team when it gets older is because maybe he saw the goods but he want to see if they would still be the same when they get older .If I'm viewing a hold over team I'm looking for the goods which is the roll the spin the quality, but like you said you can get that from a parlor roller,,but what I be looking for is a team that works together, kit together, and does it all the time.complimenting each other....not all of them to be deep ,maybe - two 10 to 15 footers some 20 to some 35 the trigger birds to be the short one so the deep one have some birds to follow and get back into the kit when the birds stop rolling..
some pretty sight to see....when they break together ... snow balls coming down----------

Donny - I agree. They must perform correctly with high velocity and style with frequency.

Rob - There are certain families of Birmingham’s that do not perform much as young birds due to their late development. I new a fellow that had Hilton stock and his particular line of Hilton's came in very late. So, as young birds you would not see much but when they matured his birds could not be beaten.

In my family of young birds i am looking for shallow but fast tight rolls with good stability and when i get this in a kit of young birds i know there's gonna be potential in those pigeons.
The depth at this stage don't matter to me because my family seem to get deeper as the birds reach maturity.
Yes short fast frequent spins and i know i am on to something.
Like i said this is what i look for in my family of birds and this dont mean it is the same with your family.

I have heard the same and maybe even said it too. I have seen young birds teams that are full of activity, decent rolling but not mature hard, fast spinning. What I would hope to see at a later day is that maturity, harder and tighter more velocity. Also see the same team again and see if they have gelled and developed some chemistry amongst themselves, who flies front/back who is trigger and do they begin to work breaking together. All these things i would hope to see develope from a young active kit. I think for the most part that hard fast spinning comes as the bird developes confidence and strength, their mental motor turns on and they really cut loose. I couldnt guess wether someones else young bird team will develop that way, I hope they would, and I hope mine do to. My young birds change, some of them quite alot during and after the moult. Most get a little better others fall apart. I like to tell myself that I can see potential in my young bird teams say 5-8 months old that will hopefully improve as they age to yearlings and 2 year olds and become more fit physically and mentally.

Rod/
when I am viewing a kit, I look for the quality of the best individuals on the breaks. I am not scoring the birds, just enjoying them. Judging is another thing all together.

When ever I say that... it is usually because I see some thing in the bird. That is, very good style and velocity. Usually as they get older, they only get better. In doing so, this out standing individual could be a Champion in the air with some age. It can work back wards as well as I have found out two years ago. While visiting a friend, I noticed a very good styled roller ripping it. After pointing it out, my guy said "you should of seen him when he was younger". I found out that the bird in question was a old stock bird that had gone infertile and just recently been put back into the air. I could only wonder the performance that bird had at his prime.

Just me,

Thor

I look for that occasional flash of brilliance. If they do it once they can do it again. It`s like comparing the J.V. team to the Pat`s. The JV team has one or two plays and players that are great. The rest are just riding coat tails.

Once they have matured and the neccessary adjustments have been made to the team, they are a totally different team of birds capable of performing to their best allowed by management.

YOUR LOOKING FOR THE BIRDS THAT CAN RECOVER AND CONTINUE ON THE PATH TO BECOMING GOOD TEAM FLYERS...
WHEN LOOKING AT YOUR TEAM YOU GOTTA GET FAMILIAR WITH EVERY BIRD IN THE TEAM, EVERY TEAM HAS A STARTING TEAM AND A BENCH..
JUST BECAUSE A BIRD CAN ROLL 40' DOESN'T MAKE HIM A STARTER!
IT'S BEST TO BUILD YOUR KIT WITH THE BIRDS THAT ROLL FROM THE MIDDLE AND FRONT OF THE KIT! THE BIRDS THAT ROLL FROM THE BACK ARE TO ME, WORTHLESS, BECAUSE THE OTHER BIRDS IN THE KIT CAN'T SEE THEM WHEN THEY ROLL. YOU ALSO HAVE TO LOOK FOR BIRDS THAT TURN THE KIT TO ONE PARTICULAR WING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT, THESE BIRDS ARE NOT GOOD FOR A GOOD TEAM!!! JUST MY OPINION...HOPE IT HELPS

When I am looking at a young bird kit, I am looking for (2) things.
What birds are starting to show potential. These are birds that I want to make sure I lock up as soon as the BOP start getting bad.
I am also looking for problem birds. If I have a bird come down early or land in the trees, I want to know who it is. I will mark the bird and they get the first of the three strike program. Once they get their third strike they are gone.

See It depends

what the (age of the birds are and what stage are they in there development) are there any bad habits that i need to eliminate do they all fly do any one coming down early and how high there flying, how long anybody doing there own thing

If you do your work early an now you are getting ready for competetion the kits are usually 8mth or older the only thing i look for is kitting, rollingstyle, and heart and the birds that go almost everytime no mather what and hold on thats it Pray for no bop and no out birds and and and and till the 20 min of torture is over

when i look at someone else kit I always look for quality and for the best birds he has up there. the one thats reeming and again it depend what am there for to help or to be entertained or to judge

Thanks for the great posts and goodluck to you all!
