I don't medicate youngsters unless their sick! I do worm them though! If you get a sick one, cull it or at least quarantine it immediatly! -

Redchecker16...Maybe this will explain alitte better. One of the major problems is,we as awhole relie on MEDS too much for any ailement. Weather it be for our animals or for ourselves. ....take MEDS. I am a strong beliver, like most of the guys here belive. If the birds aint SICK, don't mecdicate them. If you keep a dry, well ventilated loft, good feed management you should have NO PROBLEM. If I do get sick birds after this, you can believe me they are culled(meaning they are no longer residents in my loft).NO MEDS allowed..........LOL. Hope this helps you out.

A cull is a bird that will not benefit you any by keeping around!

Other than that, we shouldn't discuss it on an open forum!

Whatever,,,lots of folks give their birds preventitive meds eg.,coccidiosis,worms,canker,respiratory.I'm not saying squeakers, but full grown birds, nuthin unusual about that.Personally I don't but many fanciers vaccinate as well.----------

We should take into consideration that not medicating properly and medicating when not needed only builds resistance in viruses and bacteria.A problem that has been seen with antibiotics. So lets keep our birds healthy by keeping their lofts dry, clean feed and grit and clean water. Please medicate only when necessary and only with the proper meds.

My opinion is anti-biotics are a crapshoot period. The best thing you can do for your birds is vaccinate, like yesterday.P.M.V.,Sal-bac,pox,make sure you get it overnighted fresh with dry ice.Its like not vaccinating your kids or your new dog for heartworm.Laziness and being cheapskates is the the only reason for not doing so,I use the gun."I only vaccinate when I have to" that's stupid. That stuff can run through your loft when you least expect it ,knock on wood all you want,I'll vaccinate responsibly...Aloha,Todd

Just a story Todd...a few years ago i noticed a few of my birds with P.M.V i separated them and treated. Not noticing any improvement after a few days,i disposed of them!End of story...Did a careful eye save my loft or did i just get lucky?

I P.M.V all youngsters before 30 days old,no more medication till they have matured, having witnessed what this Parvo can do when it gets among birds, wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy, I also P.M.V all adult birds once a year, seldom if ever have cause for any other medication.
