Most of us breed muffs every now and then. Some cull them out of preference, but they roll just as good as any other bird.I have some, small muffs though. Can't say i really care for them, but if they do the job ...they stay!

I like Muffed too, sometime my breeders would get muffed even though they are not muffed, there are great spinner. Feather on their feet doesn't mean anything at all toward their ability to spin.

Willy, I have Rich Hayes line of birds, they have muffs.Look at his competition numbers, very good, very consistant, tough region too.If a great spinner has muffs in my loft, its an added plus.I don't breed for it though, just happens to come from the pairs I breed from....Aloha,Todd

Will, I flew some big muffs in my competition kits when I was in the CRS and BCRC... In fact the rollinest bird in my kit was a big muff. She pretty much looked like this one... She went about 25 feet...fast.. and very frequent. I named her Showtime. Paul

WOW Paul! Your the only guy I know who has muffed rollers with muffs that large! You had stuko lofts with electric wires running in the walls when I met you in 1981. You told me you could always tell your strain by the way they spun. I wanted to get some of those back then but you had none available at that time. Still got that loft(s)? Cedric Bogen was the one who introduced you to me. ---------- "The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the illusion of knowledge."

Paul that heavy muffed roller you posted reminded me of the cross breeds Reggie Stewert bred many years ago in southern California. He crossed his rollers with west of england tumblers to get a deeper spinning west. Some of the crosses were flown in roller competition in L.A. too. There still must be some of that stock bred in Los Angeles today. The old Jack family shell out some profuse long f/f rollers too. My f/f roller family are bred from the original imports along with pedigrees. There are lot of f/f rollers bred from the Jac family in Missouri. Thank you for posting, Ray Sanchez.

Bayani, You must have seen my muffs roll then. Some guys don't believe that they are pure Birmingham roller, but I've never crossed outside of the breed. Those first muffs you saw were from birds of Cornell Norwood, and they were 119 jammed up.. The old stucco cage... I called it the Third Eye Loft, but some other guys called it the Tijuana jail.. I had chain link and rebar inbedded in the stucco walls and roof. Bars in the windows too.. Paul

Ray, Reggie Stewart...!! I got my first roller from Reggie... I remember Reggie Stewart was flying commmpetition with other West of England breeders. There are also guys flying pure West of Englands. I saw some of them that a guy from Utah had... Nice body..just like a roller, but he said that they still had a way to go in perfecting th roll... But that must have been atleast ten years ago. Bobby Ruiz was also flying West crosses back in the 80s. They had plenty of roll in them. He was rolling a lot of them down. Paul

Hey Todd, I've seen a lot of good birds with those "speed marks" on them. Maybe there's something to that. It was hard trying to get the health certificates for shipping those birds to Hawaii... I still feel kind of bad that it didn't work out... Take Care my Friend, Paul
