You guys that fly your birds in individual competitions, how do you do that anyways?Do you fly the birds alone or judge a single bird while it is flying in a kit?----------

When we flew our Champion flys two per year old bird/young bird, these were the most eagerly supported flys, your nom bird was flown in a kit of five, with all eyes on nom bird at all times with points being awarded for frequency and quality, with emphasis on quality, with just four others with it,there is no hiding place, again care is required when selecting its companions, birds that compliments its ability, these would show themselves, when being trained for event, its possibly the biggest test of an entrants ability,as in other flys, the numerical break masks quite an amount of flawa, not so in these with no breaks as such, ideally there should be just sheer quality,of varying degrees, the possibilities for quality judging flys are endless,Cocks/Hens/Any Sex/Yearlings/Two Year Olds/ and so on,with this flys, maybe we are on the right track for a popular consenus for selecting an ideal roller.

Rum30 - Good question! Rum before I start I want you to know it is great that you asked the question as most make assumptions. First the birds are judged on speed (1-10), style (1-10), frequency (1-5) and depth (1-5). Second, a person can fly the individual birds in two types of competitions and they are single bird fly and multiple bird fly. The chosen pigeon for the single bird fly has to be identified by the judges 3 judges for each fly. The band number and color is recorded before the bird is released and the bird must be identifiable in the kit. If you have all dark checks the bird shall be identified by whatever can distinguish it (Tape, paint, one white, flight). The bird has to perform correctly at least three times. For example if a bird shrinks and turns into a pea once and does not do it again you have no score. If he or she does it twice you still have no score. The objective is to have birds in the champion category which is 27-30 points. In the SBRC we only certified 2 birds in 5 years that reached champion status. We had a lot in the spinner category 22-26. Anything under 22 is just rolling. You can see that speed and style means nothing without frequency and depth also as a component. What good is it if a bird only spins once in 20 minutes! The PRC uses these rules also. One thing Rum is that in years past there were people who scorned the people who flew birds using the system above and we did our own thing. It is nice that we can finally discuss both aspects of the hobby in a respectable manner.

Thanks Doc.I'm quite interested in this type of scoring as it DOES happen that one bird will really stand out.
Cheers,
Kel.

Every time I say I don't or probably won't, I end up tasting foot powder. I have flown in competitions before, granted it was a long time ago. I have very little interest in todays scoring system, mainly because I think the individual bird is penalized. One bird to be scored! That I could be excited over! Understand I have no animosity toward anyone who enjoys this style of competition, there is room for us all. I would just rather place my loft and abilities in the hands of a judge watching just one bird.

A bird that is not flying with the kit cannot be scored in the rules that I posted.

Laron,
can imagine having 10-15 birds in a kit that can all score 27pts or higher and work together. REMARKABLE!!!

This has been my goal for the past 6 yrs. Last year I came so close to acheiving this goal then the sh-- hit the fan.
I became distracted, but now I have my focus back. I look forward to working with you and others.
