I dont measure on a percentage basis. I keep fly notes, I mark down the date and what I noticed about the bird, good or bad. Not everydate has an entry and most birds get evaluated about once a month, more often if they're doing very well or creating problems. If I notice a bird doing well for a couple of months, and I have room in A team, Ill promote it. Then I watch to see how the team reacts to the new member and how the new bird performs in the team. Often times it changes both the team and the bird. If its a good change it stays, bad change i move it back. If no change results in either, I watch it closely and compare it to the kitmates, does it go in the break? , where does it fly in the kit? , and i can make side-by-side comparisons to A-team members. To stay A-team it also must not have any major faults, no bumping, solid kitting, clean exit from roll and good loft habits. I would rather keep A-team small and good Q than move birds up just to fill it.
As young birds develope i move them around regularly amongst young bird teams. I try to keep them with birds showing same attributes of activity, feeding and such. i also hypothesis this creates an environment where the bird developes into what it is bred to be and isnt affected so much by external influences, like me or the team its stuck in.
