Hey I am building a 4x4 loft to go in the front yard! I have never flown my birds before! I have only been in rollers for about a year now and I am going to fly birds around 1 years old/some being even older or younger that have been flown by others before. I am building small flight pens on each side of the 4x4 loft, how big should they be? could anyone show me any pics! Will my 1 year old birds be able to fly okay if they have never before and will they return (what are your methods?)
Thanks a lot,
Andrew

Hey Kope, The flypens on my kitboxes are 2ftX2ftX18inches high.Train them to the traps before you fly 'em and make sure they haven't been fed for 24 hours before ya fly 'em.I have a small cage to hang over the traps for training older birds. The young ones I just put on the landing board before they can fly and they learn pretty quick where the food is.Might have to push them through the traps a few times.I use a flag on a 20 ft piece of 1/2 inch pvc pipe to flag 'em off the roof of the house if they land too soon.Settle the birds in the new loft at least a week before you fly 'em. ---------- Kel.
