Is it worth going through the hassles of Breeding a certain amount of Rollers just to get 1 or maybe 2 that you feel are the REAL deal in about 5 years of time ?

George - The answer will vary from fancier to fancier. The real champions are rare and will always be rare.

If I had yo wait for years to get a few very good performers I would have dumped every pigeon in my Loft already.

How many exceptional pigeons do we breed per season, maybe 1 or 2?How long do these birds have to prove themselves in the air if they last? How long before you determine their worth in the loft and their abilities to breed exceptional offspring? It's nothing but work and time(years)!Lots of love and patience and anyone who hasn't put in the time has to and even those that have...have to keep a diligent eye! If you're stating otherwise you're only fooling yourself!
Can we breed descent performers on a regular? Certainly! Are descent performers "The real deal"?....Certainly not!

Hey George, not much different from flying competition, a person could fly a life-time and never win the World Cup or Fall Fly.
Is it worth it?
A man can spend a life-time breeding to achieve the ideal roller and never do it.
Is it Worth It?
Me thinks a man better enjoy the process, i.e. "raising" rollers, because for the most part, that's all most are gonna have to show for the effort. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Life's all about the journey, George....the climb.....the mountain top is rarely achieved by most folk.....and those who do usually feel less than gratified when they get there. It's all about the people you meet along the way...the friends.....the flies....the barbecues.......the good birds and the good kits along the way......the jokes....the good times....that's all that matters. If one does not find joy in that aspect of the journey, I doubt he will find significant joy in breeding a champion or two along the way, either. I find it, personally, very much worth it...even if I never breed a true champion. Cliff

Anticipation, improving from year to year, or just the trying? Dreaming, or planning late at night when sleep just will not come. Starting over late in life when you probably will not have enough time to see even one "CHAMPION"! Thats not why! It's the smell, the soft tiny bodies in hand, even the daily routine of scraping and the endless cleaning. It's trying to see into the midday sun, and the heart stopping blur when it's right. Young birds kitting, taking their first short hop while learning where home is. Then the eggs, each could hold a champion, each might not be fertile, which? It's tomorrow guys, there is always next year, tomorrow.
