Cesar,
The birds I call strawberry are ash red with sooty. If you have aa ash red with a gene for sooty it seems to smudge the pattern and look like a semi checkered.

Thanks guys for the info. I recently got a ruby from Tony that looked like a regular Red Bar, but the pedigree said "Strawberry". I've heard the term used before (1988), but never really understood which birds looked the part.

Someone should publish a book or something so everyone can use the same name for the same coulors.

Tony,
That looks like a ash red bar to me.. When I was a kid,, all the old timer's call lavenders that had ash red showing on the feathers strawberry's. I have a couple off the Bobby Bradley stuff that look a lot like what the old guys in my area called a strawberry.. You used to see a lot of birds of this color in the flying west of englands.. Just my opinion.. KGB

Quikspin,
That is closer to what the guys I grew up with called a strawberry. Lavenders showing ash red.. The birds Tony and Thor posted are ash red bars. Nothing I can see that make's them anyting other than a red bar. I guess in different parts of the country, terms get used differently.. Whats UP posted a red grizzle. Darn good thing we are not color breeders!!! LOL KGB

I think I have this right.

The Umpire was a little slow after a pitch in making the strike/ball call; Yogi Barra looked over his shoulder and asked, "Well, Ump! what was it?" to which the Umpire replied, "It ain't nothin till I call it somethin!"

Makes sense to me!

Ken B.,

It is the dirty, smoky, sooty factor that makes it a Strawberry instead of a red bar. Man, even for non color breeders, it can get confusing at times with all the names. Lavender, Red Bars, Silver Bars, Duns, Strawberries, etc...

Here is what I have been calling red bars

This is what I have been calling duns for years

Tony,
Thats what you get for going onto one of them colored breeders site's. We already know their sole goal in life is to mess up the minds of real roller men. Stay away Tony!! LOL Just like we call Dun's those ash red checks that carry smokey blue and dirty,, they call dilute blue dun. Color is just a different world. I know they want us all on the same page. I just prefer the heritage of the old roller men and how they bred for roll and called the birds color's by what they considered common sense.. Kind of like a friend of mine that has two dogs. One is named browny and the other bluey. Can you guess what color they are?? LOL KGB
