I couldnt stand it. I fly mobile. I was going down the road today with my kit box and came upon a hawk. He was sitting about fifty yards off the road. I stopped and released my FOR hawk kit. He paid little mind until the started rolling over him. Then he made a pass or two and they just went up above him and kept rolling. After about five minutes he gave up and flew away. When they trapped I released my Fireball kit and flew them with no problems. I fly like this every day that it isnt raining I have five kits and hope to have fifteen by mid summer.

I flew for the first time in a long time. Big Mistake too! I lost three birds to three separate attacks. Back to lockdown status.

- 40 'F ... I only wish we were in the positive 40s. That would be mild temps for us. The birds do fine. It is not so bad, just stay out of the winds. Flew the birds once when it was 2o below 'F. They flew well but landed after only 15 mins in the air. Not a good day to fly them when it is 40 below tho. Too dam cold to be outside waiting for them to land.

I don't think i would live to long in that type of weather.I usually get sick when it gets to cold, had asthma when i was little! I come from the tropics. When the temps hit the low 30s around here...i consider that cold..LOL !!Hope you get warmer weather soon!

We are suppose to be below 0 'F for highs the next two days. Than gradually make it to milder temps... which for us means mid 20s for our highs.
Probably do some ice fishing, Thor

My birds are locked down. I am saving my birds for comp season. No need to feed them to the Hawks this time of year.

I live in North Florida. I have been flying mobile kits for three years and I love it. I cant fly around my house because of thick timber. Too easy for the hawks to ambush. We have a lot of timber land that is harvested regularly and I fly in the cut over areas where my birds can see the nasty little BOP coming. We dont have Perigrines much. I have only went against one and it was a little hairy. The rest are no problem for the Hawk Kit. My regulars just quit chasing them at all. I flew the other day with one fifty yards from the kit box and flew three kits. He just watched. We have coopers, sharpshin, and red tails mostly.

Left out one, I fly mostly in the afternoon, but occasionally by ten in the morning. Hard to get caught up in the morning to fly. I like between two and four.

You know what, I did fly my birds today. There wasn't any kind of hit. After releasing some of my older birds in the sky and nothing happen. i just decided to put out a few of my youngster. Today was a very hot day, and nice too, yet I just like it when there is no BOP around.

Sippi Glad to see you in here....I'm getting kinda lonesome without any portable fliers to converse with. Been flying mobile for going on 18 years except for a few periods when I couldn't for health reasons etc. It's the best game in town! Al

Hey Al I know the feeling. I am just putting the finishing touches on a twelve kit box so I can fly them till I am exhausted. Hope to fill it up by mid summer. It will hold 192 birds without crowding. I like smaller kits any way. Plan to compete in the eleven bird fly next year. Do they allow mobile kits to compete with everyone else? I know they used to have mobile kit comps.

Hey gang; Let me answer 3 of you at the same time. Sippi.....yes they will allow a mobile kit to compete although very few will try it against stationary lofts. Sandy-91.....You train them the same way you do those in a stationary loft but be sure they are only about 4 weeks old when you start them out...in other words before they can fly. Snake doctor.....I don't know how to reach you but have been waiting for your questions. Maybe Tony would not mind you starting another thread on his forum. Al

Sandy it is just like a stationary kit box except I never leave it in the same place two days in a row. I may only turn it ninety degrees but I move it daily. I also have my feed pan and perches painted hot pink as well as the roof of my kit box. I trap train for three weeks and after that they will come to the pink. I never fly the same place more than every third day. I can release my birds from any where I like after they learn how to trap home to the color.
