I see people postings this all the time about birds they are selling... what exactly do you mean when you say a pair of proven breeder?

To me, this meant they are a high percentage producing pair of stock quality performing youngsters.

What is your thought about this?

I know guys have use this term to loosely. Any pair that could produce eggs are a proven breeder?

Just thinking out loud here,

Thor

I think a proven breeder suppose to mean that the pair have already exerpeince velocity, speed, and pretty much everything in the rolls. And also will produce High Quality birds just like thier parents.

A proven breeder, for me is one that you have use with different mating and produces 80% of quality birds with all of them.

Right on Thor,
"they are a high percentage producing pair of stock quality performing youngsters"
Thats exactly what it should mean! Any Breeders not producing this should not be labeled a "Proven Breeder" plain and simple! So how many real Proven Breeders are out there????

Thor...you answered your own question...it has nothing to do with how they did in the air...a bird that has done it in the air is a bird that has been "flown out" or tested in the air and held it together..and flown out to me means more than a year of flying with the A-team and is a top quality kit bird....

A proven breeder is one that has produced in the stock loft for more then one season.....

I agree with these post. Proven breeder must be able to give you a high percentage of birds. You can't always say on different mates, cuz if you breed it to a cull chances are that you're not going to get what your looking for. However if the breeder works out with other quality mates then you know you have a proven breeder.

It is used as a sales pitch way to often! Be careful! Do some research on the seller first! JMO

Thanks for your input guys. I know we as breeders never think a like. One thing to me could mean a whole different thing to another. Some times, it help keep things interesting :)

I see it way too often when a seller claims they have a proven pair - then writes on a side note that the pair was proven to produce eggs, yet nothing about how they produced as to performance. Never understood why such would be a proven pair?

Now here is another question, if the pair was such a quality producing pair, why would it be up for grabs?

I'm glad to have met some quality fliers in my area when I got serious about these birds. Now a days, it seems all most impossible to score a proven pair... yet alone two.

Hoping to score a proven pair or two for a good friend of mine... hence the question,

Thor,

If it is a proven pair...why is it up for grabs..here is one reason that I can think of.....Sometimes you have to move forward....I do not have a lot of room in my program....because I will lose focus....to many pairs and I lose focus...so...Every couple of years...I will let a couple of my old breeders go..to make room for the new breeders that have proved themselves.....

Last year I sold an 00 cock and an 02 hen.....that were proven breeders and produced some damn good birds.....but I only have so many next boxes....I had a couple young pairs that I felt moved me forward.....so I let some of the older pairs go...why not spread the wealth....

OF course when I made the deal...I was that I would be able to get young birds from that pair whenever I wanted....It does not happen very often...but they guy that bought them from me...got a huge head start on getting some quality birds....

You are totally right about making sure that you are getting a proven pair from someone that is repitable

Paul, what you just said about the guy who purchased a pair of proven breeders, has a huge head start on getting some quality birds.

I LIKE HOW YOU SAID THAT!!!!!

I for one appreciate the fact that you experienced Flyers see that the newbies, novices and beginers are not having to start at the bottom. When y'all make one of your birds available either thru sale or by gift......that bird reflects the investment of you time, blood, sweat and tears
so in a real sense We are not having to start at the back of the line or bottom of the hill.

Big Ole Thanks to All Y'all!!!!!!!!!

Anyone ever been beat with your own birds????

That just could be the highest compliment!

But I guess that would mean you would have been "Out Managed"!!!!!

I purchase some proven breeders from a friend of some one that had just past away. They were 04-06-05-01 and even two 07. The person told me the 07 were not proven but were out of the best pair that person had. He was selling all of the breeders to help the wife paid for the funeral.

Like Paul said, sometimes you have to sale your older pairs to add new ones. Not many of us breed any bird that you can breed out off. I sold most of all of my birds that I had so I can bring this ones in. My previous birds were decent but you can't compare to the ones I purchase. I could of stay with them and breed them also but for what. Keep the best and cull the rest. I purchase 2 proven pairs and got two 07 birds for free.

Thanks

Steve
