Had one that was hit in the same place last night.Landed on the kitbox and the juggler vein was just pumping it out running down off the roof.Pretty hard to take.Sometimes I wonder how much longer I can stand it. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

That video gave me vivid flashbacks. Last spring while trying to fly my birds after lockdown, I had attacks every time out. Tried a dozen different days at a dozen different times over a period of two months. Finally one evening while holding a bird who had managed to escape the BOP and return to the loft as I watched the blood dripping through my fingers--I decided that I no longer had the right to do this. By law I am not allowed to protect my birds, and my present location is a death trap. I gave away everything! I miss flying birds on a daily basis- watch ferals in flight, look at videos on various sites, lurk here reading about birds. It ain't the same. I know how this feels. I just couldn't justify flying birds from my present location any longer. Geo.

Geo, I'm starting to feel like that with my Rollers.Have you ever thought of trying Donek pigeons or another diving breed? You can fly them in smaller #s and still get performance while not attracting the BOPs.Sorry to hear you've pulled out of birds completely.Good luck.---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

Sourland before giving up completely give good quality Flying Orientals a try. It is a game to me. I fly my Hawk Kit against them any time one will come around. I also fly a Hawk Kit before flying any other breed. I took pics the other day of a coopers sitting fifty yards from my loft resting after it chased my FOR's around and gave up. I flew three more kits while it sat there and watched. Took the pics for the non believers out there. A kit of Galati's( the third kit ) are sitting on the loft in the pic.

Madmax, my bet is on your bird. It's amazing how strong they are and how rapidly they can recover. If there are no internal injuries, he could very well survive. My experience has been that once hit, they are weakened and more vulnerable to the next attack.
Sippi, have tried to locate flying OR on the East coast to no avail (I am located in New Jersey.) Since a pigeon guy can't be without birds, I have gotten a few homers from a friend and will raise some young just to have some to fly. Prior to getting my rollers, I flew homers from this location with minimal loss. Geo.

Just lost 3 birds tonight 2 were spoked late breeds that i just put out and a third was taken . Mr Cooper appeared out of no where. While i am out side infront of the kit boxes no problem as soon as i go inthe breeding coop bang all the birds take off spoked. I ran out side and the cooper flew over my head .
Sour..? I was going to suggest you try the diving breeds or hommers , I kept homers for 2 years prior to the rollers and rarely had any losses.
With regards to the injured bird , pour some peroxide on the wound. Get a needle and fine thread and stich the bird up. I have done it before and saved some birds

-------I had two that got away rip so bad that the food came out the crop,i pour peroxide on it everyday and rub triple antibiotic cream on it make sure you isolate the pigeon and give plenty of rest.but put in a separate cage so no bird would pick a fight with it.my birds heal fast and in a week and a half the wound close on his own.. good luck.. ------I bought from Tony Terramycin----a healing antibiotic salve that clean up most infections in a hurry.I use that now.. works great. ---------- Ralph....

Now that I get a better look, I don't think superglue would work at all!I think that you will have to get at least a few stitches in it to get it closed up a bit! Unless its real cold there, I think it will keep bleeding and oozing and infection or weekness will take its toll! JMO
Good luck with that! Its bad! Keep us informed!

I have been saving birds like this for years this is about my 40 surgury I only lost about five pigeons in 15 years. I think he will make it he seeem to be upbeat and he is now eating. To stop infection I use triple antibiotics in the wound in and out it help with healing and infection
