When I was about 10 in '67 a guy in Surrey,B.C. gave me a pair of culls(suicide) and I kept them along with some Trumpeters for a couple years till started living in different parts of the world didn't have birds again till 2006.Totally consumed with the bird passion now trying to figure out how to stop working for other people and devote every day to my birds and garden.Getting there!Basically it was guys who were freinds of Monty Neible before he passed away who gave me the rollers I have now. ---------- Kel. I got started with rollers when i bought a pr of what i no now as red badges from shannons petshop in oldham in about 1989 it said birmingham rollers on the cage i broke them in and as they flew they pulled back and dropped about 20ft on there tail that was it i was hooked. I'd never heard of rollers but after watching these birds fly i needed to no more a guy called shaun kelly told me i should get some better birds from chelford auction so of i went with my pocket money and bought 6 rollers i broke them in and 1 a blue checker hen put a 6ft spin together the 1st proper roll i'd ever seen and that was it rollers have been my number 1 choice of pigeon ever since. Steve.
ps ive still got photo's of my 1st proper roller.

HI LADS , Similar story here .......... as a kid of 7 or 8 i climbed a set of scaffold and caught a white scrag pigeon from under a bridge , took it home ..... we had canarys and british birds , my old dad loved birds and came home with a few rollers not long after ...i belive from maurice hole or norman chapman [ who started maurice off and lived about 5 minutes walk away ] . well we got the bug and had them a long while ............. yrs later the rollers slipped when i was obcessed with hunting and getting too deep they gradually were lost , a few yrs ago i met up with a lad at john wanlesses place when dropping a bookcase i made off for him ....... went round to watch the rollers and.... BAM ....hit with the bug again , now ive a loft 3/4s done and youngsters hatching off from stock birds borrowed and given to me from wanless and maurioce hole stock ......... yep the bugs bitten again !
all the best

I got my original start back when I was a kid..by the name of Leo Newton...he had all kinds of pigeons as well as Rollers...of course they were not even close to what I have now.
As far as getting started in competing and raising rollers the last 6 or 7 years....Well...I got my start for quite a few roller guys....Chuck Roe from Davis gave me my first birds, Mort Emami, Scott Campbell and Tony "The Hitman" Chavarria.....These four got me going and then I had a lot of help and insight from Bill Crider, Dwight Wallace and Ken Firl.....Now that I am a Jedi....I try and pay it forward every chance that I get,.
I still have a Cock and Two hens in my stock loft from Chuck Roe as well as my "Original" Pair of 04 Ruby Rollers and some Original Mort birds...actually one of my first Mort Birds...a little 03 Blue Bar Cock that I flew out ....is turning out to be the back bone of my set up....lots of his offspring and grand offspring have made the stock loft!!
