robbo,
Are you sure they have worms? If you worm them regular then they may not be wormy. If you use Ivomec injectible (for cattle) and they have worms you will see them. Give them 2 drops down the throat and your done. Just a suggestion...

Not positive on this Chris, but I would think when the worms die inside the bird, they are digested by their system before being excreted(protein!!).I use all in one twice a year. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

Is it ok to give them at the time of breeding, when they have squeakers in the nest?
Off topic
What other medications do you give twice a year.
My friend told me he gives them 4 in 1 then Epson salt and then again 4 in 1 3 weeks later and again Epson salt. I might of spell it wrong but a name like that.
I don't medicate my birds unless I need to, because I have heard this so many times.
I also want my birds to be in good health. What medications do you give them to keep the birds in good health? Some give them medication before breeding start and also before starting them to fly them. ---------- SALAS LOFT

HELLO robbo double r is right ivomac is one of the good one on the market. it's a good idea to worm befor you put them down. if you have worm you will see them the next day in the tray. just make sure you give them some good bacteria after you worm them.and take the grit out too if you dont the wormer will not work that good wen you give your bird's med's you take out the good bacteria so you have to put it back in. it best to do it a few weeks for you put your bird down. good luck. let me know how it go's have a good day.

I prefer to use Medpet Mediworm (available on this site at the store). The reason is that unlike most medications, it works for all three worms: tapeworms, roundworms, and hairworms. Hairworms are too small too see with the naked eye, but may be the most common. Also important is that it is in pill form. That way I know that each bird has been properly dosed. You push it down their throat to make sure they swallow it. You must dose on an empty crop/stomach. In example if you feed in the late afternoon, dose in the morning or visa versa. (Thanks for the reminder - time for me to order more.)
"MEDIWORM TABLETS A broad spectrum deworming tablet for pigeons, raptors and galliforms. Mediworm is currently the only broad-spectrum single dose, combination tablet, known off in the world. Highly effective against Roundworm, Hairworm and Tapeworm. Extremely safe, causes no regurgitation and is very economical. The small size of the tablet makes it easy to dose. May be used in the breeding season. Mediworm is the golden standard in routine deworming. Available sizes: 100 tablets CONTAINS: Pyrantel Pamoate 20mg, Praziquantel 5g"

Chris, the pet shop over near Frostys sells the Horse Wormer, it also kills anything that lives off the bird its self, ie, ticks and mites.

Chris
MedipetWormer is tops they also do a four in one powder,or as Wayne says,Ivomec drop twice per year will shift most parasites, you wont see them if birds dont have them, never treat for anything when they are feeding young, use Garlic in water helps keep them worm free, another good cleanser is Copper Sulphate,at one spoonful to bath water once a week, helps also to keep Coci and Canker levels down, also kills all feather quill lice.

One thing to keep in mind and has happened to me and to a couple more friends. I also talk to a guy in Jedds and he said he has heard that same thing before.
A wormer that is made for cattle many of us use it or have use it before is too strong for pigeons. Birds that were fertile before after giving them the drops are not fertile any more at all. If you give them a drop more they will died on you.
What I notice was that my birds would not even laid a fertile egg in till 6 months after the drops. My friends birds are still not fertile and they been more than 6 months already since the drops.
I will not use those drops at all there are wormers for pigeons so use those.
The one I had use before and also my friends is call Ivomec a brown glass small bottle.
