Obviously George Mason birds go back to Bill Barrett birds. You can see this in the pictures. What I would like to know are they early developing or late developing birds or a bit of both. The early developing stuff comes on really fast, but get a lot of roll downs. The stuff that pans out though is some of the best in the loft. These birds cross very well with Bob Brown stuff, but there is Bob's blood in the background. The late developers come on quick when they do come on, but it's a long time to wait. You can tell within a week if they will be good or roll downs. I have a dark checker hen I have kept her flying for 4 years before she came into the spin, but when she came in she came in. She is still in the breeders, I put her back to the Bob Brown line & they seem to come into the spin faster than their mother, thank god. I still fly her after I take 2 rounds off her, she has produced some amazing pigeons, all hens, cocks always roll down or won't kit. Her daughters produce a lot of good cocks. All my crossover birds have this birds blood in them she "Fritzie" would be my best stock hen as far as throwing good birds in my crossover line. My Bob Brown line all go back to Bob's black grizzle cock, the 1972 singles champion in England. My Bill Barrett stuff go back to the white hen & the dunn badge cock. I also had a cock I received from a local club member, he is my early developing line, come into to the roll before they are kitting & after flying for a month can spin like old birds. I have tried several blood lines before I got my English stuff but since I received them I have never looked back that was in 93. I hope I hear back from you, shared knowledge is the best knowledge.

Al Very impressive looking birds, would those two first pictured birds be in the breeding of Georges, Red Ball "Nomination Cock" as there are a some of these lines in this area, with colour and type similar to these, visited with both Bill and Bob as they did with ourselves, they flew some absolutely fantastic kits of pigeons then.on one occassion after watching the birds fly,he brouht me in to show me the stock birds, also explaining to me why he sold pigeons, whereas Bill Barrett if ever rarely sold pigeons, but gave many freely," But you Donny can pick one,and I will give it to you" No Thanks I replied,"Why he asked" Because I want something better than my own,we eventually emerged, and his garden being full of people watching the birds, most I didnt even know,Bob pulling himself to his max height of around 5 ft Seven, hand on his lapels, announced to all in his best English voice, which incidentally bore very little Brummy accent,"Gentlemen I have heard and seen everything now,a fancier refusing one of my birds for FREE,adding insult to injury,by telling me he wants, something better than his own,and he is F****** Irish, laughter was the order for the rest of that trip, these were top class fanciers, with top class birds, both characters in different ways.

155, I'm from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, actually north of Toronto, in the country. I keep my flyers at my mom's, she has 10 acres. My loft is 20' x 12' and faces south with wire mesh in front open all year. This loft consists of 6 kit boxes able to house 250 rollers. I usually have between 80 & 100 flyers and add some of the breeders when they are done breeding. My breeding loft is at my house, about a mile from my mom's, it is 22' x 11'. I breed my birds here. It has 14 individual breeding pens. I have breeding my birds this way for 13 years. When I first got my english rollers I had open breeding, but was watching the younger cocks jumping all the hens. How accurate are pedigrees now. A gentleman that started me with the english birds had an old cock that was not producing anymore & asked if I wanted to try him in a empty kit box I had. I took the bird, who was directly off the imports & mated it with his neice. He produced 7 young ones in 2 years for me. This cocks blood is 1 of my Bob Brown lines today. I have since learned this birds parents were a crossover between Bob's birds & Bill Barrett's birds. These birds cross very well, Bob & Bill were doing this for years. I have had pigeons in my life for 40 years, rollers 20. Had tipplers as well, dabbled with homers, & some fancy breeds. Love my rollers & spend as much time as possible with them. My new girlfriend loves them also. Helps me clean & feed them & all other general maintenance as well. She has never seen them fly except on a video I have, but can't wait until spring to see "our" birds in action. I fly my birds until they are proven breeders & have bred several outstanding rollers with different match ups. When I fly in the world fly this year I will have yearlings in my kit & up to 8 or 9 years old. I am 1 of the lucky ones & have no hawk problems, at least at my mother's. There are lots of different little tricks to breeding the english birds, like when to put a straight flyer into your breeding program. You think straight flyer, yes straight flyer. A bird that does not even flip, but kits exceptionally well makes a great stock bird & will produce some of your best rollers. Another example, a bird that flips constantly, but does not roll. This bird "must' be an excellent kitter, staying in the middle of the kit constantly. Put this bird in your stock program to your best velocity roller & it will also produce some of the best pigeons in your loft. There are a few more little tricks like these. Bill Barrett used the straight flyers regularly in his breeding program. I think most men use the flippers to increase frequency. My birds are pure Bob Brown & pure Bill Barrett & I have crossovers as well. Most members of the Toronto Flying Roller Club are flying the English birds, some cross them with other bloodlines, but the best competitors have kept them pure. The all English Champion white hen of Bill Barrett's is still alive at 23 or 24 years old residing at my good friend Ross Vito's place, he has lots of birds going back to her. Ross received her from Abdul, Abdul received her from Bill just before he passed away. Bill Barrett never sold birds, but would readily give them away & resented any person selling rollers. Anyways I have been breeding these birds for 15 years and have figured out a lot of little tricks & if you have any questions just ask. I don't mind sharing my knowledge.

DON Lunau Well by talking to Al Luna he was telling me about his trip to England to George Mason's Loft he spent like two weeks in England and he was telling me that cought his attention with the Mason birds was he seen a kit of Mason birds flying so Mason told him to go ahead and look around and that he could go in his kit box and handle them and what not....So he started pulling birds that he had seen in the air that were preforming well, what cought his attention was by checking the band numbers on them and seeing that most of this birds were eight years old and up...So he told Mason about his white hen that he had seen in the air and he asked George about that white hen and he asked him if he breed her already and he said not yet that he was planning to put her down this year the reason why he liked this england birds is because they last long you could have eight to nine year old birds still preforming.....

hi guys,
I am just back from visiting George Mason and watching him fly three kits of young birds and looking through his lofts. Then was able to spend the next day with him as he jusdge the CCRC in Middlesborough.
I believe the birds posted are not very similar to what he is currently fying.
Don - have you talked with George about the birds or been to his place to see them?
When did you get the birds?
Regards,
Ken Firl
