Stan Plona bred this cock PRC-50-1594 from Bill Richards imported stock cock 48-492 and a imported hen from Alf Roper 46-945. Black check bronze PRC-1594 was mated to PRC-50-1504 black check bred by Leroy Smith. This pair bred PRC-53-514 black check bronze hen. Red check saddle 46-764 cock and red check butted wing 47-425 bred PRC-51-664. Bill Pensom brought 47-425 hen to this country in 1948. She was sired by a Jim Skidmore cock 46-62 and she was out of a Bert Goode hen 42-190. Bill Pensom mated PRC-51-664 red check badge cock and PRC-53-514 black check bronze hen and they bred PRC-56-145 blue check mixed wing cock PRC-52-4101 cock and PRC- 53-514 black check bronze hen shelled out APC55L-4220 blue check hen PRC-56-145 cock and APC55L-4220 bred NBRC66-3704 red check cock and BCR-70-7636 black check hen. This pair bred NPA-78-517 black check cock and NPA-78RL-538 black check hen. NPA-78-517 cock and NPA-78RL-538 hen are the patents to NPA-78-480 black check hen and CCRC-82-998 black check cock. I purchased the two hens NPA-78RL-538 and NPA-78RZ 480 along with their full brother CCRC-82-998 in 1982. They have proved out to be good breeding stock bred together and on my mealy bar stock going back to #463 and #1613. They also have been benificial to stabilize and improve other roller families. Ray, you are going way back with the history. Are you line breeding thoes birds or making a new line? So how are things over your way? I saw Jack, he came by to visit and pick up some birds for a friend up north. I had not seen him for awhile. I have been talking to Sam and Kenny lately. I have been trying to get Sam to breed up some birds and fly in the World Cup with me as a combined kit. He told me he is thinking about it. we'll see. Keep comming with the history, a lot of new flyers need to see and hear about some of the foundation birds and breeders. post ya later ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay

Hey Central valley, I have 3 hens bred in 1996 that are still laying to big eggs like young hens. They are in individual pens and I bred 12 young off one of the hens last season and she has two young and two fertile eggs right now. She has bred all winter.. I have a 1992 cock bird that is still filling nearly every egg in an individual. I'm not so sure a bird can't breed till 17. I agree it's not the norm, but the exception.. The foundation to my line HCS-77-#2267 bred until he was 19 years old and was still fertile until he died. Are you sure you know what BS is? If your breeding from them weak controlled by the roll birds that come early and go sterile early. I guess it would be BS. Some weak controlled by the roll rollers, have hens that are done at 6 years and cocks rarely make 10 years. Weak gene pool and vigor has been bred out of them. Now there is some BS for you.. Just my opinion. KGB

=======> by William H. Pensom
{P.S.} I thought that was #514. Can you please refresh my encyclopedia of roller knowledge?

Deep spin The cover photo THE RED SPANGLE COCK was i believe M.R.S.1925.521 Also known as the king of the black country He also was a winner of the crystal palace show in England. Deep spin If you go to page 85 you will see the famous P.R.C. 53.514 It was a Black check bronze wing self pigeon.
I have some great details of all the birds in that book description and numbers feel free to ask. The writings came from Don Hearn of Richmond Cali. Hope this helps. ---------- Regards W@yne UK

Wayne and all roller fanciers that are interested in history about competition rollers welcome. Tom Munson, Frank Lavin, Jack Myers, Ken Billings, and other prominent roller fanciers have Bill Pensoms USA pedigree imported records. Then the majority of us have our own pedigree records dating back many years. Good feeling to know you are breeding and flying from the original champion stock. Many roller breeders have bred the original stock different than the old Masters and have been very successfull in doing so. This has resulted into new Master Breeders and flyers in the United States of America. The old Master Breeders in England gave us the opportunity to breed great stock in this country too. Then new Master Breeders and flyers have emerged in England and Europe. I would suggest that anyone that has a goal of becoming a great breeder and flyer to get more serious in the breed. Breeder and flyer of competition rollers, Ray Sanchez.

Wayne you mentioned Don Hearns name. Don had some great stock from the #514 hen and #1613 hen. He was a member of the California Birmingham Roller Club and competed for several years before his death. Don passed away at a very young age and was very happy with his great stock. It was always a good feeling when Jack Myers, Ken Billings, and Ray Sanchez visited with him and observed his breeding stock. I have more information about his breeding stock later. Hi Jay it is always good to hear from you. Keep us informed so we will know what is happenning in California. Oh I have rollers still breeding young between 10-15 years old. Hopefully Ill have pictures of them soon. Ray Sanchez.

Hey Ray, I'll try to keep you posted on whats going on In Calif. I have been out of the flying scene for awhile, I have been just flying for myself and breeding a few each year. I met Joe Ebmerton, David Vang, Sid, and many others at Joe's house a few weeks ago. I went with Rich Naftzgar to meet and visit in Visalia Ca. They are a great group of guys and reminds me the CCRC back in the day. I saw some good spin, quality, and depth. Joe said they had not been flown regular due to weather, BOPs and such. If that is the case I really want to see them when they are hot. After I saw Joe's kit I got motivated into putting more time into flying and training my kit. I know we all fly the birds our selves but I have really missed the fellowship of the club scene. Joe's got a real nice set up. I'm going to try and go see David Vang's kit I heard he was leading the WC for a while last year and He lives near by. Take care Jay ---------- They gotta Spin to win.....Jay
