Rangel - When I bred 114 (all individual Pen) his father was 18 years old and still hitting doubles. Do you know who has him now?

It wasn't all that uncommon in the past. 18 is old ya, but it isn't impossible. I think overmedication today is to blame for lack of fertility robbo.

Robo – I do not know how long you have been in rollers but I have been in for 39 years and many of the Pensom birds have bred longer than that and it has been well documented. One thing you will learn about me is that I will not make a statement unless it has been well documented or it has been a lifelong experience. Also, know it did not have an old ring on it. When you stated, "This does not happen mate" what are the basics of your conclusion? I also think the cock 47 produced well into his teens, 3859 (bred by Bill Pensom produced well into his teens, 4013 who was off of 3757, 1220,1233 and many more birds. I must also reiterate that I have bred in individual pens so there is no room for error. Yes, the father produced until he was 18 years old. Below is just one example of other documented birds that have produced past 18. So, it is not uncommon. I must add that in the Pensom strain it was not uncommon either and this is the strain that I worked with.
"Frank & Ann have created their remarkable family of racing pigeons through Frank's knowledge and determination, plus his ability to smell out a good winning line that would blend with his already successful breeders. Over the years Frank has travelled thousands of miles, visiting a similar number of lofts in his quest for the best. The first birds introduced were of the Mencke-Haelterman family from Zandbergen, Belgium. During the 1960's and early 70's this loft was one of the best in the world on the middle distance races. From these early acquisitions came the incredible WONDER COUPLE , BLUE EOLE and WHITENOSE a breeding pair that produced what you would term Golden pigeons. Over a ten year period this remarkable couple were responsible for birds to have won over 300 x 1st Prizes and 50 x 1st Federation/ Provincial victories. The best of their lineage was the famous FILMSTAR winning 26 x 1st Prizes, 12 x 1st Federation/Provincial races, becoming 1st Ace Pigeon U.K. of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association for his performances from 0-250 miles and 7th World championships Versele Laga. This outstanding pigeon is now 15 years old ,still fertile and not even looking half his age. This seems to be a inborn family quality, his G.Grandsire the famous WHITE FEATHER of 1964 live for 23 years and was still fertile until two years before his death. The present day birds are all based on Champion FILMSTAR and the lineage of the infamous Wonder Couple."

I also had a birds that just died 2 weeks ago he was bred by Frank Lavinmthis was a 1989,i got 1 young out of him in 07,and many unfertil eggs, but left alone in a individual with vitamines every once in a while youl get one. i have many in the 15 year range and most are still fertil. Hens thats another story, they seem to go out about 9 or 10 years.Hector Coya
