is it possible to introduce a new color into a family and line breed to keep the color without losing the performance?

Hey Ty, In regards to color, there are all types of colors in the Birmingham Roller that appeals to the eye. As far as introducing a generic color beyond those that are already there, it would not be a wise decision, as it could and probably would hamper the performance of the birds...But, as they say, it is your feed, your time, and your money..

Ty It is possible to get the depth that your looking for with those Andies..The best thing to do is just stick them with a SOLID, stable, deep performing roller that shows what you want in a bird, and breed some, and see what you get. No one on here can tell you how your pairings will turn out, but yourself...As Nike says.."Just Do It".

Ty, The biggest issue working against you, in this case, will be the outcrossing, more than the color issue. If you are already not sure of the family of birds that you have....probably because they are a hodgepodge of many families (usually if you get birds from somebody who has no idea what family they are, it is for this reason)....and you introduce yet another family, be it one with a color, or a Pensom, or a Jaconette, or anything else, you are introuducing, yet another, genetic line and you keep broadening your gene pool. The chances of getting anything promising in good percentages is minimal in these situations. Of course you can always get lucky. But you don't want to go for the long shots. Remember...it's a game of constantly improving your percentages. You can find all the colors that you want in a proven famly of rollers, as you have decided. Until you land the birds you want, it won't hurt to play around and prove this out, of course. JMHO Cliff
