Ty, your birds that bump are most likely menally weak, unstable in other words. This happens from time to time. Just keep their band number recorded so you don't breed from them later on. Just think of having 20 birds come out and hit the loft taking off or landing. Most will cull themselves if they have decent velocity, but some will learn and start using control and make good kit birds if they survive. They can roll down if they are small or eating slower and getting less feed than the others. Check them out and make sure they are not getting thin in the chest and breast. Keep good records so when you see the one that makes you feel, WOW! holy cow! I like this bird, you will know who the parrents are. Just remember its the parrents that are the wonderful pair and not usually the performer in the sky. Good luck Bill C

i'm thinking this is something i have done because this hasnt been a problem my older bird has never bumped and its not usual out of my other 07 one cuts it close sometimes. This wasnt like rolldowns its like something triggerd them about 20 foot up after a 45 minute fly.I was bringing them in with feed when it happend. All three went together. At least i had a good break---lol

Has it been a few days since you last flew them? If I have had my birds locked down for a few days they get a little squirally on thier first day out.
I can also induce a break when landing with my less stable birds by a clap or a sharpe noise. They kind of freak when landing.

Did you put anything else in their feed like pelletes, hemp seeds ???? I learned the hard way ...... when they get fat their too heavy to get out the roll ---------- If it don't roll it don't go!!

My birds are like the post office rain sleet snow or hail there gonna fly if they eat my feed.I dont lock down well only single birds that get off somehow.I've never tryed hemp seeds with my birds lol.I was shaking a feed bucket when it happend so maybee that was it i was cutting them a few minutes short so i could get another kit up.

Ty,
In my opinion it is an issue of stability and control. It is a mental function more than a physical one which would be the result of things like feed, rest etc. Birds that bump are a result of a faulty control mechanism. They should not be bred from as mentioned above. I know, Ive tried it, it is a very heritable trait.
Sometimes birds act out of character when they're moulting heavy too. Check and see where they are in moult stages. They may just need a brief time-off.
Im like you in that my birds go out nearly everyday, rain, wind or sun. Sometimes they need a few days off too.
