I have a younging that is about 30 days old he doesn't drink on his own but he attacks both of the parents. He is, like i said, 30 days old and he already stands taller than his father. I think he is on steroids or something..lol..he is going to be a big fella. I hope he lets the parents come near him when Im not in their because he will die if not. Is this normal?

When I have a youngster that won't drink, I leave him on the floor and about 3 or 4 times a day, I will hold his beak under water for 10 seconds or so or until it wants to breathe and it usually has to swallow to get air! It will get a taste and usually catch on to where and how to quench his thirst! If it doesn't cath on, after a couple of days, I will put it back in the nest to let the parents take care of it for a few hours and then I start the process over! Be persistant, but patient and it will catch on! It helps to have a few other little ones with it, they will teach each other!

Hey Kopetsa, You should take the good advise that the guys gave you seriously. Their not gonna tell you anything that will hurt your bird. In reality that youngster should have been weaned from the parents by now. Place it in a pen with an older hen (not his mother)if you have one, she will teach him what to do.
Good Luck, Otis

Andrew,
If you have the bird separate from older birds it may not see where the water is or know how to drink.Once it gets a taste of water by you dipping it's beak in the fount, then it will figure it out otherwise it may just keel over from dehydration. If you want to learn how to fly rollers and train them to kit and come back to the kitbox, listen to what these guys tell ya and don't be so(self moderated) or you might not get such good responses to your multitude of questions.Get them in the kitbox by 3 weeks unless you want to have problems training them.Hunh.Kids.

You should put the young birds who already at the right age to eat by themsleves, in another kit, so they can learn to eat on their own, instead of relying on the parents for food. That's what I do to mine, and it works fine.

Kop,
It is obvious that your a very new breeder, which is great. In regards to young not finding the watering hole, you will have that from time to time, we all do....

Now, I personally "dip" EVERY single youngsters beak into the watering hole when placed into the kitbox. This is a new place for them, and they need to be shown where the water and food are..

Whenever switching birds from the breeder loft, to the kitbox, it will help if you use the same type of waterer that they are used to..Just a few small pointers...

It is good advise to listen to these guys!
