I feed my breeders 15% and chicken pellets but they sometime gets too picky. I have been observing and when I feed them some bread, they chow it all down. the squabs get big quick. once the squabs gets big enough to when they start flapping their wings, I stop. Is bread a good idea? yes or no. Is it good in the long run? yes or no?

I never seen anyone do that with rollers. I used to do it with some fancy breeds years ago to tame them. I used crackers too. It never seemed to hurt them. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

Bread has salt in it and all the other stuff in it so I would not recomend it to be used for feed. ---------- N/A Loft

I use to give commies bread when i was a kid in the park to catch them, now with my rollers I gave bread at one time or another to my birds to purge them only I take it and toast it break it down to crumbs and give Epsom salt to drink .I learn that from the old timers.but i just stick to pigeon grains in the old days it was hard to get .now that i come to think of it ,,its hard sometime for me to get grains here ,,lol.. ---------- Ralph....

Lot of people back in the early nineteen hundred fed bread crumbles and water soaked bread to their pigeons. I fed it all the time including vegetables grit and grains of all kinds, The depression was going on therefore they were fed anything that would keep them alive. If you ran out of food to feed them they would fly to the field to eat. The Indians taught my granmother how to pick green grass to eat and it was very delious. The way the cost of feed and food is going up it could happen again. Keep your fingers crossed so it doesnt happen again. The ole Master Breeder, Ray Sanchez.

Thanks for the input. I guess because I breed rollers, I should stop because they will soon demand more. i will stick with the grains and the grits. I just wanted to know if you guys (roller hobbyist being in the hobbby longer than myself (3 years) has any inputs on the ups and downside. Again I appreciate all inputs.
