I have been reducing the feed on my kit birds to get them down close to where they need to be. These are mostly 07 birds. They were getting too strong and not trapping as fast as I like. Today they came out rolling like crazy, some were crazy. I have been feeding them a heaping tablespoon for a week now. I had some great rolls today but several acted like they couldnt handle it. Three bumped while coming in to land. The depth increased today also. Should I go up on the feed some or chalk that one up to having a bad day? All the birds acted somewhat unstable..

Try giving your kit birds grit couple times a week. Sometimes it is because they lack minirals and calisum causes some unusual behavior. The birds skying out is due to them being lite. Peas will faten them up a little and will bring them closer.

Get some of the pickstone from Holland from T. It is goooood stuff. My birds eat it like candy and I provide a grit on a regular basis.

Ty: cut back the wheat add milo and millet to get em lower and slower. Watch their condition real close when you do this as both seeds are nutritinally defunct.

Ty,
With my Monty birds,I've used the clipped barley(1/4) when they were flying too high, but they only usually fly high when they have been chased.

sippi,
breaking birds down by feeding a non-high protein feed will show your weaker birds for the most part. I have had birds that performed well when still on mixed feed, turn out to be junk when placed on wheat and or milo. The lower protein feed tones the birds up, meaning less fat on the body, which induces the unwanted hidden traits.

I would switch them to a mixed feed for 3 days, only feeding the same amount that kitbirds should be fed, and see if it makes a difference..If it does, then feed them the mix every 3rd or 4th day...Good luck.
