I just recently built a new mini loft that is 8 individaul breeding compartments. When i moved to this new house, I had to put the pairs in cages and they gave me 1 round already and now they are on the 2nd round sitting on eggs for at least 2 weeks now. Today, I am finishing up on my final touches on this new mini individual breeding loft and I want to know if I should wait or go ahead and move them.
Is it a good idea to move the pairs along with their nests to the new box? Will they still sit on the eggs or will they abandon them?
I would like any feedbacks or answers/suggestions from those of you who has done it. I would like the pro's and con's. If it is a bad idea, I might have to wait until round 3.
Thanks.

Flo, In my limited experience,I've had success inmoving the nest with youngsters in it about 12 days old from the individual cage down to the floor can't remember why the hell I did that but they were fine at that stage.I'd wait till they were close to laying the next round. ---------- Kel. Never worked for me. After movement of the nest, either at dark or day, they will no longer stay on the eggs.

I was fortunate to have mobile breeding pens. I simply rolled the pens up a ramp and onto a U-Haul truck.
Then I hauled a$$ to my new home (eggs and all). Never had to move the parents off their eggs or young. You may not be able to move pigeons off their eggs and put that back under the hen in another place. If you can move the entire nesting box with birds on the eggs.... you may have a shot. And I do mean a long shot. Nesting birds don't like people messing around with them when they are are sitting on eggs or have pinkies (little fuzzy yellow squabs less than 4 days old).
{P.S.} I would have never moved if not for the mean neighbors!
Glad I did though... bought me a foreclosure sitting on a huge .67 acre lot.

they are so close to hatching I wouldnt even think of it until after they hatch. Unless it will cause you a hardship why risk it.

Flo, I am in a similar situation. I am just waiting til I get done breeding. My project will involve the demolition of my existing loft and then replacing it with the new.I dont have the luxury of just moving from one place to the other. If I were you I would wait til the squeaks are on the floor and the pairs are looking to lay again. Thats just me.

When I was a kid, about 8 or 10, I begged this older man my father bought feed from to sell me a pair of his Nuns. They were on a nest at the time and I took them home nest and all in a little box. I put them and the nest, what was left of it, in the loft and both eggs hatched. I`ve never tried anything like this with the rollers, but I think it can be done. Sounds like some of you have had some luck with it also. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts
