Hey Guys,
Our camp is broken into two sides, U.S Military on one side, Iraq Army on the other. I watch these birds every morning while I have my coffee, and after 15 months I finally got enough nerve to go over there to get these pic's. The Breeder is a mechanic for the Iraq Army and was a very nice fellow, allowed me to take all the pictures I wanted. I don't know what kind of bird these are , he fly's breeder and young birds together. Strong flyers but he has alot of trouble keeping them up.He has one Homer with a bad wing, I thought the band was pretty cool. This is my first attempt at posting pictures, I hope their not to big and come out alright. Can't wait to get home to put my birds together. 20 days and a wake up !!!! YITS, Dale

Hey Dale, THANK YOU! for your service! I will gladly make an exception in this case!
When you have a chance to figure out resizing, go ahead at your convenience. No pressure! Like you can't handle that! :-)
Just want to let you know I have 2 nephews currently serving in Iraq who are Army, a 3rd who is a Marine has been there and back for a while now, and an oldest brother who served there in both the 1st Gulf War and this current operation. He is now retired as of a few months ago.
Needless to say, we are proud of each one, including our new friends who are serving downrange. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Santandercol,
I've seen them tail glide quite a bet, but no other kind of action. They have always flown in and around the trees since I've been here, he used to flag them alot to keep them up. A few of them have a crest, does anyone have any idea of what they are, or are they a cross of some sort. I want to thank all of you for your kind words and support to me and the soldiers over here. Thanks !!! Dale

Hey Dale, Do you ever get called"Magnum,P.I."? I betcha those birds have some origins in Turkey.Seems every town in that country has a different breed or colour combination of pigeon. You know what would be really cool is to travel around that region checking out different lofts and bird markets.Don't they have big cafes in Bagdad dedicated specifically to pigeon fanciers where those guys gather and bs and buy sell birds?Probably too dangerous for a gringo to go to that type of place in these times.Anyhow yeah,,,,real cool pics and sure enjoyed seeing some good news coming out of Iraq. Cheers, Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

Thank you and all the folks there for your service. We are all very proud and concerned for you all.
Those are some very good looking birds, it amazes me that in Iraq with everything going on that he has the ability to keep birds. More power to him....

Dale,
Thanks for the photos..cool looking birds...I think that a dude in the Coastal region 9C has those type of birds or some close to it. He name is RAMSEY AJLOUNI..I think he is Palestinian or something....His father had lots of breeds of pigeon and lots of breeds that are rare to the U.S....I could have swore that I held a couple birds that looked just like that and were a rare type. Anyway....I could be wrong.
Thanks for serving brother!! I currently have one of my firefighters serving in Iraq...He has been there 18 months and almost done.
Keep up the good work...as Lt. Danz would say "Shut Up..Get Down!''

Good morning fella's. Santandercol, my wifes always calling me different names, "but Magnum PI" isn't one of them. I like to think I'm more the Tom Cruze likeness,ha !! I understand that raiseing pigeons is a strong hobby over here, but I haven't been outside the wire to check this out for myself ( and don't plan to). I don't believe this fellow eat's his birds, they have a pretty nice mess hall over there. He also had alot of song birds and Finchs. He's just like us,loves his birds. He wanted to give me a pair to take to the other side, but I told him I was leaving soon, but he offered to get me started. Bluett 1983, where were you at over here ? I'm at FOB Rustamiyah, over by Sadr City. See you all soon, Dale

Electric-man,
Tell your daughter that I'm scheming of some way to get a couple to the states. The gentalman has already told me he would give me some fresh eggs, but getting them through customs could be tricky, and it would take 2 weeks by mail. But if I do get some to the states, I'll let ya know. Dale

Electric-man,
I followed the instructions you gave to Bertie about reducing the size of these photos.( 10 Mar 08)Everthing went just as you instructed and I reduced all of them. I than deleted the first photos I posted, and re-posted the reduced photos, but no change. What did I do wrong ? I'll give it another attempt, than I'll delete them if I can't get them smaller. I don't want to disrepect Tony and your picture policy, and my pictures are way to big !! Thanks, Dale

Eldon Cheney sent this to me, and gave me permission to post it. He sent me pic's of his birds, and they look just like these I've posted.I'll try to post them later. Here is what it says in the "The Pigeon". "The Syrians call this beautiful Tumbler Shakhsharli, meaning "over dressed". The breed is plain-headed and comes in black, blues, red, yellows and cream-barred. The legs appear short, but that appearance may be produced by muffs on the toes, about one inch. Thesr are usally colored, but often white. The bird is striking in it's color arrangement, which is quite unusual. The plumage is colored, save for a white head and neck, the white extending to the bottom of the neck blend on the back and deep in front on the brest. There may be a colored spot on the top of the skull and on either cheek. sometimes the entire head and cheeks are white. This expected, as the breed has been selected for performance and not for exhibition. There is usally a patch of white on the rump. The breed is obviously one that adds much to our USA pigeon culture"
