HEy there, I have question. Umm how do you train your roller kit to fly like a group and stay in the air for a longer time? LIke mines, some fly for a while but most just wants to land around the yard. They usually pick on the ground where theres a garden. So how do you get your pigeons to fly together and fly for a longer time? any advices?

get rid of all the ones that do not want to fly&breed some that do or buy some good ones from tony on this site or someone in the pigeon game that you trust to sell you some good birds.

Get a small breed of dog that is a bit on the energetic side! Teach him to flush the birds! My corgies love this game! they have got to where they don't try to bite at them now, they just run at them and bump them with their snouts! Made my job a lot easier!

years ago I was having problems with my rollers, they didn't want to fly much, when I chased them trying to get them up they just flew to where I couldn't get at them, like the pine trees, I would throw things at them they would go higher, and stay there all day, turned out they were fat and lazy, if you can't control them with the feed can (make them come in when you want them to) then they are going to do as they please. just my 2 cents worth. Been having heck with my last group! I just kept after them for about 2 weeks now! Finally the last few days they started flying a couple minutes every time that I flagged them! Today they just went up and most stayed up for about 10 min, the other 5 flew for 30 min! Ya Hoo! Think that I got them! I was gonna cull them at the end of the week!

They are well bred birds, should be worth it! I needed them, I'm only gonna breed two more rounds! 50 total!

Drop their weight and flag them up. If your birds are from flying stock, it should come natural for them to fly as a group.

I'm not a big fan of flagging them off the kit box roof. That is where I like them to feel safe. Open the box and flag the hell out of them.

Thor

P.S. Mine was flying for 3 plus hours not too long ago. I may need some of your non flying stock :(

This is what I use to flag my birds up. It doesn't help very much in scaring the birds, then again, I don't need it as much as others with the family I am working with - natural strong fliers. I suppose if I really wanted to flag them up, I would add a clothe to the end. Look at the first photo in "Arizona World Cup '08" thread. Now that is a real flagging stick.

I might also add that I am not a fan of molding my birds to be scared of me. Only when it becomes a must will I go to extreme measures.

A flier must have their safe zones. Never flag/scare/etc. your birds from these places. It also works in opposite. Like the ground for example. Flag them off every time and they will know that it isn't safe to go there.

Here is me flagging my birds on a hot 90 degree day. Sweating just standing under any shade type of day. The birds just didn't want to go to work that day so I stepped in with my flagging stick.

Thor
