It was a nice day yesterday (mid 50's) so I figured I ought to snap some current photos of my birds before losing them to the sky sharks. While taking photos, I flew the yearling team * the team I plan on putting up for the 2nd seat. Well, Mrs. Cooper didn't like that at all and snatched one as they were coming in to land. Good day as any since she was fed all ready to let out the old bird team. Here is a clip taken with my canon digital camera in video mode of my main team I plan on flying for the world cup and all '08 local flies for you to enjoy. Just doing my part to keep you head strong in your endeavor. Since Mrs. Cooper and the Perry pair has been on my asse for the past month now, I will only chance the team once a week up to the last week of the World Cup - than a mad dash of hard flying.
I'm lucky (compared to others) as I really don't have much of a problem with them sky sharks. Only gets really bad for a month here and there. Pretty much clear flying 8 months of the year. If you call 4 months of hell lucky that is ;(
Since my digital cam has a weak zoom, the video was captured during the first minute or two of release and last minute or two before landing. The birds has been on a straight milo (no relations to you) diet for the past week now. This is the first time out in a week of lock down. Not much to their rolls as milo has degraded the quality. Loose kitting due to the lack of air time. Not much to concert performance. Hell not much of a team right now period. Tho don't tell me this as I am happy just to see them back in the air again. I can only imagine with more air time and warmer more consistent weather fronts what this team can do. Well, a fellow can dream can't he ;)
Sad when it becomes normal for some one to sacrifice a younger bird which he or she has invested less time in to save an older bird which he or she has invested hundreds of countless hours. These are the times we live in and has become the norm for most of us now.

Also I just picked up three bags of seeds for my doves and pigeons and was just wondering how they will effect them? Are the following seeds alright for them to eat? 1st bag - Organic Millet 2nd bag - Organic Pearled Barley 3rd bag - Organic Soft White Wheat ---------- Andrew

Alot of average birds in the lot. There are 2 Blue Check selves, 1 Saddle, 3 Black White flights, and a Lavender Grizzle that are top notch performers. Hell, if I had room in the stock loft, I wouldn't mind having those kicking it out. As time being, I appreciate their rolling qualities over their parenting skills. 3 pairs is enough for me right now to handle in the stock loft.
A hard days work for them, it is normal for them to pound thru the traps looking to refill their energy with some feed.
Hope all is well with yours.
Thor
P.S. It was hell trying to follow the birds with that 2" LCD. The footage does no justice for many of those birds.
It doesn't matter what you feed your birds if you don't fly. Feed is just a tool a flier can use to bring the most out of their fliers. The reason for straight milo is to break them down. It brings alot of activity. Activity means nothing without quality.
I don't consider them as a kit but a team. A kit bird is just another name for a flier. A team is what I use to describe a flock of rollers.
Hope that helps, Thor ---------- It's all about the friends we make :)
Hey Thor Thanks for the video .glad you had a happy moment.of cause not until the BOP mess it up for you..I know it felt good to have them up thou..and that moment was a great feeling to you. hope the BOP leave you alone so you would devote more time to your training.... and peace of mind..good luck.. ---------- Ralph....
Thanks for putting the effort in to making the video Thor! Thanks for the comments too! Just letting you know that people out here are watching and listening! My first comp fly is in 30 days! Birds are young (9=1 yr, 11=6 mo.)Never really played with the feed enough to figure them out! Being from 3 families doesn't help either! They come out pretty active, but only for about 10 min. then they slow down! ---------- Val
I will try every trick in the book with these birds. Notice me whistling like a fool at one point. This is to drop them on the roof as quick as possible. I usually use this trick on them when the sky sharks get really bad. As you know, our birds aren't the quickest when coming in to land. They will circle and circle and cirlce and some times go back up before coming back down to land. Makes for an easy ambush.
We all learn every day what works for our birds. Just gotta pay attention.
Notice the caged up birds in the video. These are my high fliers. I usually don't like to fly these birds when the BOP gets really bad. They will usually keep my birds up higher and longer, which in turns wears them out more. When I do fly them, they are usually flown less as it seems to keep them out of shape and under more control. That doesn't mean that I still won't let them trap in as a team :)
Good luck and have fun flying. That all when can wish for.
Thanks for the video footage. My daughter and I watched the video. She asked me, "are those your birds daddy?" I said no, daddy doesn't have any this year so my friend sent me his to watch instead...So thanks, it was nice of you. Hopefully I can show you some of mine next year.
I'm glad you and your daughter enjoyed it together. Didn't take much effort as I all ready had the camera out. You know it takes about 10 shots just to make sure you get a good one. Took photos for close to an hour. After all the yearlings landed and trapped in - minis one. I kicked out the old bird team which needed air time. Filmed them for a couple of minutes then started snapping one by one photos of the yearlings again. 20 minutes in, I noticed that the birds were back down to 70 feet. So I started videoing them again. Finished up the last of the yearlings and whistled down the fliers which looked tired from all that rolling... more tumbling than rolling with the milo ;)
A little windy that day but my birds are strong fliers. All ways handled what ever mother natured dished out for them well. Can't pick and choose the days you want to fly any more.
Thor
P.S. Hope the migration passes soon. I really need to put in more air time for this team... so they would look some what decent for the Big Fly, yet alone the locals.
What a way to start off the week, Thor. Having my coffee and watching a great video of your birds. I really like the way your birds trap. Looks like I've got some more work on mine, they'er not quite that fast.....LOL. I had mine out for the first time over the weekend. What a feel'en. Thanks again for the video. ---------- Fly High and Roll On Paul

Your welcome. While taking updated photos of the birds, I remember Milo's post. Figured since he doesn't have much in the air any more, I'll video mine for his pleasure.
Glad you enjoyed it. I know I did, even tho they only flew for 30 odd minutes. That is 30 more then before.
Thor
P.S. Straight milo - side effect is breaking them down. Equals hungry birds. Equals fast trappings ;) Then again, they are veterans at trapping in now. They been learning for at least 2 years ;)
