It appears my resident Red Tails are nesting and patroling their territory pretty hard! They chase and attack my birds without rest everytime i release. When can i expect them to settle down some,so i can try flying without such harrassment?
Last year i lost a lot of birds due to this behaviour and i don't want to make the same mistake again!

Luis, after trying all the standard techniques of adjusting fly times, not allowing 2 kits out in a row, avoiding birds lounging on the loft/kit box roof, not letting your birds out for several days to a week or two after one has been taken, you might consider applying for a permit to trap and relocate the pair.
I believe you will have to approach the state and federal authorities for this to be done.
I know it is a bit of work to minimize or avoid bop issues, but do not violate any local, state and MBTA regulations in looking for a solution.
I know I do not have to say this, but the new people need to hear it so they are aware. Keep us posted. Good Luck! ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Luis,
Consider yourself very lucky! Ah, reds... I wouldn't mind having those at all. They are very territorial. I'll take Reds over Henrys yet alone Perrys.
Lucky you, Thor

I don't really agree with you Thor.I've seen Coopers and Peregrines in the area, while the Red Tails fly and the only thing they seem hell bent on harrasing are my kits of rollers! The rest of the passer bys just stroll through without much notice.I don't feel to lucky at all, especially right now that they're nesting.I wish i can turn back time & go back to the 80s'! Minus the fashions and valley girls....LOL !

Luis,
I have to agree with Thor. When I see a Red Tail, I'll still let up my kits but if a cooper or a falcon is in the air they won't fly that day. Keith has a red tail nesting on a tree two houses away from his house, but he paid close attention to it and knows when it leaves to look for lunch and when it comes back home. He has lost a couple of young but not a handfull of them like you. Might help you out if you pay a bit more attention to it's schedule. ---------- Efren Lopez SGVS

Luis,
No problem. We agree to disagree :) Reading your first post, you told us that you had a nesting pair of Red Tails. From experience, I noticed that when ever I see a Red Tail soaring about, it is a go to release the birds.
Here is the deal. I can take your Red Tails and you can have my Henrys, Groshies, and Perrys. I'll take your Red Tails any day vs. the others. Wanna trade?
Your a lucky man bro, Thor
