Ya gotta do the best thing for the bird never mind the heartybreaky.Got a bird who's leg was mangled by Mr Coop through the wire floor on the kitbox before I'd put covers down there.Like really mangled bad cut it off at the elbow, put ground coffee on it to stop the bleeding and she is spinning in my A-Team,doing fine.Alot better than having a useless leg dangling there. If you're worried about him not being able to mount a hen, trim his opposite flight feathers or pull them out and trim his vent feathers.Birds can do it handicapped as good or better than we can!!! ---------- Kel. Kel good advice. I also have done an amputee with excellent success they soon learn to adapt with one leg. ---------- Regards W@yne UK

wizard, did you cut off the band before it swelled up. On leg injuries with the band especially if the leg is swelling I'd cut off the band. The band will cut off the circulation and make the leg die. If the leg dies it will fall off by itself but that's after a lot of pain with that band squashing the leg.

Wizard, unless this bird has some special value to your program, I would cull it. I wonder how much pain and suffering this bird is enduring while you decide what to do with it? ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

hi guys well what a coincidence we took a leg off a hen only yesterday, she had got her ring caught on wire about 3 weeks ago the leg was badly swollen btu had seemed to be healing and she was flying well in the kit and rolling. We noticed when she landed last night the leg had swollen worse the ring was digging in and the leg was going black. We took the leg off and she is doing fine only downside is she won't go in comp again cos it was her ring leg shes good enough for the breeder though.

Don't people gets vets to do it or do they do it themselves? Do you give the birds pain killers or something? ---------- Andrew

Just do it fast and clean.Whatever it takes.A little bit of pain is worth it sometimes.you know,to live on in the best way you can.
OYE!!The Rollers,,,,,they don't have to be banded to fly in comp least not in these parts you'll get away with the odd bird unbanded.open the old band up and squeeze it shut on the other leg, works with aluminum bands. ---------- Kel. Rum-30 Lofts

hello wizard...well i been through that before...just leave it on there, sooner or later it's gonna get dried up and it's gonna fall off somehow...so wish you the best but yeah he could still breed....trust me...
