Hi guys,
I bombed out in our regional this morning. I really cut the feed to the birds since they had been strong and stiff the last few flies and it cost me. I let out 20 and called time in aftger about 2 minutes. One bird came out of the kit and three followed down to the loft roof. I was done after being on the clock about 2:50.
Lesson learned. I could have easily waited anouther monute before calling time in and would have seen that the birds were going to come down. I could have then changed the number I was flying prior to calling time in to 16 birds. I would have likely been in the lead right now if I had been smarter.
As it is Bill Crider is in the lead with about 58 points after the first day of flying. Chor had thre coopers come in on release and the kit could never quite regroup but I saw three outstanding birds in his kit that I would love to have.
Oh well, I am looking on the bright side, I can pull 2 pair of Starley's out of the A team and stock them for the summer breeding season! Yeah!
Regards,
Ken

Bad Luck for me this year. I haven't had a Bop attack for 2 months and on this particular day it showed up and screwed my kit up. I guess it was just pure bad luck, but there's always next year.

Ken,
I'm sorry for your bad luck, but I know that you'll be back with a vengance.
Just one thing that I wanted to point out though, you said that you wished you had waited longer to call time-in so that you could have only called in 16 birds, that's not allowed by the rules. In the World Cup Fly, you must tell the judge the number of birds that you are flying before you release the birds, you can not subtract birds after release.

Chor, Sorry to hear about your fly. Maybe it's time you should move out of the where you are at. Too many pigeons everywhere and levees and both providing the BOP's with a huge amount of food source which I think the BOP's is getting a bargain for their food. Kind of sucks when you fly your kits everyday and nothing happens and when fly timw comes, BAMMO. Good luck next time Chor.

Ken, You must be thinking of the NBRC rules, which allow a flyer to call the number of birds in the kit AFTER he calls time in. That way if the flyer miscounts or a bird bumps and gets hurt on the way out, all the flyer's hard work and preparation are not lost, and his birds will still be judged. The feeling being that the rules don't really go into effect until AFTER time in is called. In the World Cup, the rules for judging go into effect BEFORE the flyer calls time in. As Dave said, the flyer must declare the number of birds in the kit box. If he miscounts or if one doesn't make it up, it's all over for the flyer until next year. The WC EC changed the rule along about 2003 when an RD reported the "huge potential" for cheating with the o;d rule (like the NBRC). Apparrently there was a rumor of a guy shooting an outbird before he called time in, or at least someone questioned that possiblity, so the WC EC closed that potential loophole. Cliff

Better luck next year Ken, I bombed once, ok ok I'm lying , more than once LOL
Yes Cliff it was determined that the fly starts once the door is opened, not when time in is called. We figured the the WC fly is and should be the premier fly of the world not amature day and that the culls should be pulled out before the fly starts,if one has a mistake game is still on as it takes two out birds not to score. A good example is Kens fly and dicounting , he just plain screwed up and that was a reason he had a problem, been there myself and just might be singinging the same blues today after my fly. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Scott So the fly starts when the door is opened. OK we were discussing 15 minimum fly time a few days ago on another list. If a flyer choses to take the full 5 minutes to call time in, and the kit is still not in sight, asks the judge for a time out. And at the end of that 5 minute time out, the kit appears, performs for 5 minutes and lands. Has this kit met the 15 minute minimum fly time? Technically, they have been on the clock for 15 minutes? And at the end of that 5 minute time out, the kit appears, performs for 5 minutes and lands. Has this kit met the 15 minute minimum fly time? Technically, they have been on the clock for 15 minutes?
Cliff , For starters when the kit is released technically the flyer is in the blocks like a track runner but until the gun sounds he is not on the clock. Same applies to the kit in judgement. If you allow the five minute time in period to elaspe you at that point are on the clock (or in judgement). Those first five minutes are just a grace period to the flyer in order to get his birds together. Now when you are givin the nod by the judge to exercise the time out rule that 5 minutes is applicable to your 15 minutes qualifiying time your 20 minute total time is not affected and 5 minutes can be added to your 15 minute qualifying time equalling a total of 20 minutes. So with the aforementioned according to your scenario you would still be short 5 minutes on your 15 minute qualifying time and would still be awarded another 5 minutes to total your 20 minute fly time (bonus time). Reference your time out ruling in the W/C rules it sorts it out in black and white. Rule #4 (Time out rule)
