Does the amount of wing time directly affect the age at which a bird comes into roll? My birds seem to be coming into roll sooner and sooner. I think it is affecting some of them mentally. I fly seven days a week so when they are twelve weeks old they have many hours of fly time. Some are starting to roll while still squeaking. It is not just my Birms but all my breeds except one. I have bred the others for earlier rolling but would prefer the birms waited until four or five months to come in. As it is they are flipping at six or seven weeks and rolling at eight or ten weeks. That is just too early. I think it is causing some to not want to kit because they cant handle the roll and roll when with the kit.

Sippi,
You are givin''er alright. It must have an affect on them flying as much as possible they are bound to develop faster, think if you started lifting weights or running marathons when you were five years old instead of more likely 15 years old.By the time you were 12 you'd be really quite competitive probably versus if you started when you're 15 it would take at least a few years to get in shape,if ever.
Maybe a person can fly them too much tho,for what we want them for.----------

Hey Sippi I don't know but i have come to that conclusion myself.I was told on these two family of birds i have that the roll comes in at 4 to 6 month and 6 to 9.I was flying them 3 to four times a day with some rest when needed and found they started rolling at 3 month of age .I thought maybe i was putting the time in by flying them more and notice i had to switch from team to team when they couldn't handle the roll mentally.but all and all it work out because i had two teams .fast team and slow one.birds that can handle it and birds that can't. now once they started to get into the roll i slow the flying down to once every other day for the good rollers that can handle it and kept the old schedule with the other birds that have not come into it yet.

Hey Kel,i've heard lifting weights at to young an age stuns your growth!LOL!Gotta hit puberty first.I think the same applies to our birds... or should sort of apply.Fly em' till they come in and manage so that they can learn to handle it.Of course some will never get a handle!
