I've just took out my first 6 squeaks from their parents and put them in the loft. They stay on the floor all the time which I expected but I'm wondering if I should put some low perches or just let them say on the floor over night? They are eating just fine and I have the grit and food dish on each side of the water. Then I sprinkled a little food around the water too. I haven't seen them drink yet but I guess they will learn. You know the old saying "you can lead a roller to water but you can't make it drink" Well that isn't exactly it but same difference.

Bert,
Set a few V perches on the floor or something they can get under. They like to hide from the bigger birds. Makes them feel more secure. Ya gotta watch the cocks, they might beat up on some of the squeaks.

I don't have the squeaks in with any other birds. I have all six of them in the big loft alone. It's my first babies that's all I have now.
One thing that surprised me was, I didn't know that squeaks just out of the nest tried cooing and puffing up their necks. I was wondering if anyone ever noticed if the ones that did that at such a young age was cocks? Here I go comparing to canaries but young canary males will try singing very, very young sometimes right out of the nest and that is how you pick them when their very young. I was wondering if maybe that was the same way with pigeons.
So far they seem all right. They sure eat a lot, just had to fill the dish again.
