I don't know if you noticed or not, but their is 200 pages with 25 topics on each page. So if I want to know how I go about training my babies to trap and I have to go through 5000 posts to find out what I should do, they could be dead of old age by the time I get through them all. I don't have the time to spend 5 hours looking through pages of stuff to find one small thing.

Hey Guys, I pay over $300 a year to provide the search feature...now listen up and you will learn you do not have to go through thousands of posts to find a certain topic.
If you can master what I am about to share, all roller knowledge will be at your fingertips...Ready? Here we go...
To start this lesson, I want to find threads that include Kenny Billings and discussion about the Fall Fly and feeding.
1: I type in "Billings", press enter key (search finds 90 documents) 2: I type in "Fall Fly" while putting a check in the "Within Results" box and press enter key (search narrows down to 18 documents) 3: I type in "feeding", while putting a check in the "Within Results" box and press enter key (search finds 4 documents)
Instead of searching all 90 documents, in mere moments, I have now narrowed my search from 90 documents referencing "Billings" to "Fall Fly" to "feeding" where my results give me 4 documents regarding Kenny Billings and the Fall Fly and feeding.
Next and last lesson...
I want to find threads that have discussion about getting young birds to fly high...
1: I type in "kit", press enter key (search finds 469 documents) 2: I type in "young birds" while putting a check in the "Within Results" box and press enter key (search narrows down to 144 documents) 3: I type in "feed", while putting a check in the "Within Results" box and press enter key (search finds 72 documents) 4: I type in "fly high", while putting a check in the "Within Results" box and press enter key (search finds 8 documents)
Instead of searching all 469 documents, in mere moments, I have now narrowed my search from 469 documents referencing "kits" to "young birds" to "feed" where my results give me 72 documents to "fly high" were my results finally narrow my search down to 8 documents.
Not bad, huh?
This search feature is the most powerful tool on the entire Internet for the Birmingham Roller. I am glad you asked your question, because, now I figure, I may have been the only person who knew how it worked.
Once you get the hang of the search feature, you will spend hours in research, your knowledge will increase virtually overnight.
There is a more powerful option but it is almost twice the cost, but it will index ALL the pages on RPDC which I think is over 5000 topical threads and web pages, not just the measly 3000 that it indexes now.
Donations would help pay for the more powerful option, if any one wants to help raise funds for this...
;-)

I've checked out that feature and works pretty good as long as you change the search to all or any words, then you still end up with a lot to look at but cuts the 5000 way down. Don't do an exact match, I tired that and only got 1 out of 7 to come up with anything at all. It keeps popping up "No documents found relating to your query. Try to widen your search and enter more words related to your topic. Hint: Searches are wider for ANY words rather than ALL or EXACT PHRASE."

Bertie, I am glad you found it more useful. But let me explain something to help better grasp the concept of search.
The "search" feature cannot read your mind or know what you want. You know what you are looking for but the system gives you exactly what you ASK FOR.
It's like once, my wife Joni asked me for a couple dollars so I handed her 2 $1 bills. She looked at me like I was crazy and asked why I only gave two dollars...that's what she asked for!
It is a little tricky tool to use at first, but once you have the knack for asking the question to lead you to the information you want, it's a gold mine.
There is a saying when dealing with computer programs, "garbage in - garbage out". Once you master the technique for communicating with a computer program, it becomes a priceless tool.
The hammer in the hands of a carpenter can build many beautiful and useful things, in my hands, all I can do is break things. lol ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria
