I tried the search tab but couldn't find anything before deciding to post this question.

First and foremost, this is not a question to upset anyone with the recent posts of the "M" word. It is a straight forward question without the intent to start an arguement.
I am going to try my best to ask it and hopefully it sounds like some reasonable questions.

Before the birmingham roller was thought to exist, who brought this breed to existance? And by doing so, what were the exact breed (s) that were use to create this breed of Birmingham rollers? And when created, what was the time (year or era) that these birds were of existance?

If anyone has any idea, I wouldn't mind knowing. If it is impossible to determine..just let me know. I just thought there may have been some guys still existing today old enough to shed some lights.

If anyone can find any recent threads or post, it would greatly be appreciated.

thanks.

Hey flo, I came up with some cool stuff when I searched. Try searching like this:

1: birmingham roller
2: established (click within results box)
3: year (click within results box)
4: original (click within results box)
5: england

You should end up with 7 documents of good reading. Give it a try. Keep the other option setting at: "Find EXACT Phrase"

If I type the entire phrase "birmingham roller established year original england", nothing will be found.

BUT, if you type that same entire phrase and select the "Find ALL WORDS" option, you will find 8 other documents with good discussions regarding your question or related to it.

ENJOY!

Thanks Tony and Val for the links and info.

Question to Tony:

Do you think it is possible if I can "copy and Paste" the information on the link that Val gave and put it in my personal webpage. I think it would be helpfull to remind myself to take pride in the birds that I have and I would find it useful or helpful to anyone who had no clue of the Birmingham Roller's origin. I would like to get an "ok" from you first so you won't be upset (I will copy the link and note that it was taken from roller-pigoen.com). If you say it is a "no-no" than I will just leave it at that and no hard feelings.

Questions to anyone who can answer:

After reading recent post provided by Val, they stated that the rollers back then were bred for depth of 50 to 75 to 100 footers (not that today's rollers aren't as potent) but because of comps, I see that the trend or popularity is more focused on the 15-30 footers (although some may exceed). I was wondering if the rollers back then being bred more for depth, did their rollers(high percentages) consisted of the main traits as :speed, velocity, style, and control?

And I was wondering if anyone has witness a birmingham roller exceeding 100+ foot with style, speed, velocity, and control (in today's day and age)? Then is it possible to maintain a "donut" for that long of a depth in distance or would it be too impossible to maintain the speed?

thanks.

Flo, a bird can only go so fast and so deep with quality and remain in control.
Competitive flyers always push the envelope on depth (myself included) but they ask alot of the birds as far as quality and stability.
Deep birds are easy to breed if you don't care how they do it,and that is the difference.
The breed is a breed named after region that it came to be in, like Lahore,Modena ect.
No one knows exactly how it was developed or what breeds were used.
