Part #1 just an observation but by the pictures you all post they seem to b a lot of selfs as in all black all red.
Part #2 i have never seen one that i would call a quality roller they never look right in the sky. this dose not mean they dont roll they never seem right in the sky do you use them 4 shows or 4 flying
#1 In my kit I have mostly every color because I change my breeders and they produce different colors on each one.
Usually ones I stick to own family I will have all the same color also.
part #2 I don't understand what you mean.

I get a lot of Grizzles in my birs. I have 3 cock Grizzle's that are from my main pairs maybe that's why.
Most of my kit birds look like this.

Millsy Just one example The KGB line are mostly self pigeons and are a very successful family of birds over in the US and have been for years. Me myself love the look of dark self pigeons Also a self pigeon has to be of good quality to make the grade because they stand out more in the sky than a white flighted bird. But you are correct in saying over here in the UK We dont have any families of self pigeons ---------- Regards W@yne UK

I like the white flight more than selfs. But here in the states they are easier target for the bop. I had a pair that produce white selfs that perform really nice. I don't have 1 single white out of that line any more. All were the first ones taken by the bop.

over here it is always your best the bop gets as in the most workrate i think they single them out becaust they are the one that tire out if they are working stands to reason they must tire so they cant fly as fast when getting chased

Certain birds will look better under the right sky conditions. White flights tend to look better with cloud cover while selfs look better under blue skies. I could have easily said that I have never seen a good white flighted bird, lol.

Dave and Wayne nailed it, it is rare that I see a really good white flyt under a crisp blue sky. Good selfs look great though, put em under over cast it is a different story on a whole ,but those white flytes shine under it. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

I only have one bird in my kit that is a self. The rest are all badge/beard or grizzle. The blue griz look self in the air. I have nothing against selfs just dont have any.

All I can do is put the best I have together. Can't help if they produce a solid every here and there. I have bred selves from White Ticks, Lavender Ticks, Black Grizzles... all of which were mated to white back ground birds and still produce these selves.
Currently my old bird team has 4 Blue Check Selves, 1 Black Self, 1 Red Check self, and 1 Rec. Red Self. They earned their spot. Wouldn't have it any other way.
I would not just limit myself to one color. This breed is full of color and will stay that way under my care.

Mills, I would say "no" it is not predominate accross the U.S. , although it is in my loft. There are many here from Ca.(lots of blue sky) so I am assuming that is why you see selfs heavy here on this site. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Hey mills, I have heard it before that some believe the white tipped birds rolling faster than the dark is merely an optical illusion. What do you think? ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

(I think all colors and patterns look good under any sky conditions as long as they are rolling with good style and speed. smoke747 ----------
That is a good point Keith and why I stated on a "whole" the thing is it is a rare fly where everything is on form looking thier best, and even the best can't do it day in and day out.

Scott,
I agree, they don't give up day in and day out with perfect style all the time but color is not the factor, in my opion that is. You don't have that problem. ...what 95% drk chks

U know its crazy to think that some people dont like birds because of color or feathers on the feet. I have visited alot of roller men wwho had alot of color and some even had feather foot in their loft and there birds were great. If that PIGEON BLEEDS, I guarantee you that the blood is the same color in a white pigeon or a dark pigeon. Sounds familiar?

Keith , where the color factor plays in is in the back ground of the sky and the illusion that it creates, nothing more and nothing less. As for all my dark chks, let me be clear on this, it is a real pain in the ass and I wish that I did have some white feathers on them LOL

No Willy there is "nothing" simular to what you are suggesting above and pigeons , besides this is strictly a performance topic and how the illusion of the sky plays in and nothing else. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott
