-Can't get my birds to lift the last few days! First 10 min about 75 to 100 ft, last 10 min, 30 ft! They have to pull up to get over the trees!

I think that their a little over weight, but I'm lucky to get 15 min out of them before they try to land and I have to flag the up! I know their not starving, they got plenty of energy to try to pr up and make woo woo! Everytime they land, their beaks are hanging open like their gassed out!

I fly in 7 days, any suggestions! I wormed them Sat.!

Val,i think you might want to do the oppossite.More wheat less milo.Should give them more of a lift!If that doesn't work, maybe add more protein to the mix.

I usually add some white millet to boost more energy/more lift. Becareful as too much will lift them into the clouds.

Consider yourself lucky. Flew the old bird team yesterday. A freakish 1 hour snow storm hit which caused white out conditions. Lost site of the whole team after 20 minutes. Last I saw they were blown towards WI.

3 still MIA :(

Fly in two weeks.

Good luck Val, I'm pulling for you!

Val,yeah,I'd go more wheat with like 10% millet or milo.Have you tried Yo-Yo'n 'em?It sure worked for me.Started them on that schedule 2 weeks before the fly with great results if not for the henery. It get's 'em real excited. They make you think their starving but as long as they are well fed up after you fly them and keep an eye on every bird as to it's weight and feel in your hand, you'll know they're faking the dire hunger appearance.

I agree more wheat less milo, balance these to get what you want out of your birds.
Milo helps them not to get too fat and it keeps them hungry .sometimes they get so light that it will make them fly high and long.. every family is different and respond differently. you have to find out what works for you and on strong windy days it don't help neither they keep the birds flying low too ..some kits have a hard time staying up so some feed then safflower.put one to two teaspoon of honey in a quart of water for two days. honey is 40 percent fructose and 30 percent glucose. I give for only a day or two not everyday for my birds only when i feel they need it.to prevent the growth of yeast and molds in the crop of your birds yeast feed on sugar as nutrients for there own growth . so be careful with it.proteins builds and maintain muscles, what they need is fats to convert into energy.changing the feed is not easy when you have a short time to work with them, because it takes really about 3 to 4 weeks on some family to see the result of what you giving them. my birds were flying to high and long so i had to feed a tablespoon and rest one day next day on rest day half of tablespoon and out the next and they are now flying about 400 ft to 5. and working harder more roll..and I'm talking mix protein no wheat and milo..now i am feeding half in morning and half in evening keep them from getting too light
they flying 20 minutes on the nose..i do this to bring them in fast now to save them from being hawk bait.. and i notice since i took the corn out they have less energy too..they were flying too long and high .sometimes i get lazy and don't take it out,its comes in the grain i buy here its a pain picking one by one all the time, but i have to do it if i want my birds right..see I'm a backyard flyer that flys and treat his birds like they going to compete.after all i did buy competion birds ..good luck Val ,,hope everything works out for you by comp day,and rememeber take it easy and enjoy the trip..CHECK IT OUT
when is it going to happen? I DON'T KNOW,we seen the numbers we saw Dan Parton talk this thing, when is it going to happen .I DON'T KNOWWW IT HAPPENS WHEN IT HAPPENS .
how long will it take ,AS LONG AS IT TAKES, what if it don't happen ...I ENJOY THE TRIP...... enjoy the trip Val...

Val, You might try tossing them a handful of peas. Also box them up and haul them up the street. By doing this you make them have to lift in order to find their bearing. Give it a try its the first thing I do if I cant get a kit to lift. Joe

Wheat and milo is the thing to do if you feel the birds are over weight and out of shape. You will need to do this right away because you do not have much time. Also continue to falg the birds not allowing them to land until you get at least 25 minutes out of them.

I hope this helps good luck.
