Tony.....I was thinking....LOL. Would it be possible to have a section(like at the top of the home page)where we could post pic of our Lofts. Possible under each Users name? Instead of having many different threads with pic being posted?? Just wondering..

I think this would be a real good thing. I am in the process of building a loft. How important is sunshine to Breeders? I think they do better if they can get some Sun. I think you need breeder area as well as a place to seperate Hens and Cocks during off season. Kit boxes are not a problem, small and kind of dark. What do you guy's think?

Showlow,
Yes to both questions. The breeders need both sunshine and an exercise area. If the breeders get too fat they wont be able to breed. Also the pigeons need to sun. They absorb vitamin D thru thier wattles and feet. Bigger the avairy for breeders the better condition they will stay in.

Things to note when designing a loft.
You can have a smaller breeding area and larger aviaries. Access to your birds ie.. handling chicks and eggs.

I have a "choke point" between the loft and aviary.I can step into the breeder side close all the boxes and the door to the avairy trapping all 10 birds in thier boxes in less than 30 seconds.

Are my nest boxes big enough? 12x12 by at least 24 is the smallest I would go. If it is much smaller it forces one of the breeders out of the box when its not "on duty",or the opposite and both birds cram into the nest bowl and the chicks suffer from it.

Is there room in the nestbox for the birds to breed?
One of the interesting things about pigeons is the cockbirds will knock each other off of the hens while they are treading. They need a semi private/protected area to copulate.

Where am I gonna put the feeders? Be real about this one. There are sooooooooo any ways to feed a bird.
