Gee bro,do you have an engineering degree or what?
Thats great. My guess is you were either a plumber or an industrial mechanic.
Ok bro, Couple of questions. Would it be better to use a smaller pipe then adapter up to the 2 inch resevior? It would hold less water and be more efficient in flushing and water usage. The feeder is great. I would`nt think that you`d want to choke down the feed and risk clogging.
I am going to be fitting my building soon and will probably use a system similar to this one. Where did you get the timers and solenoid? Some stock numbers would be very helpful. We have Grainger and Fergusens here. Also tools plus.com is a great source.
Very nice,thanks a lot. ---------- V99

V99, I'm sure there would be no problem going from smaller pipe to larger. I'm working on another setup that will water and flush individual breeding cages. I already figured out a system to dispense food to individual cages and I'm using it to feed 4 cages of rabbits.
As far as the feeder goes, your right I worried about clogging but haven'y had a problem yet but I noticed on my store bought feeder I use for my dogs, it uses a plastic bottle also to hold feed and it has started to deteriorate after 2 years in the sun. So what I'm going to do, is build a square hopper that comes down to a V at the bottom and run the auger through the length of it and out the side and down into the feed dispenser.
BTW I'm not an engineer I'm a Christian Minister that has a degree in electronics and I use to enjoy building robots as a hobby. I also build classical guitars in my spare time.
Enjoy!
I bought most of the mechanicals from surplus center on the web. The Solenoid has a 9lb pull they don't have any more that are continuos duty just intermitent duty so they may burn out. I would use either thier 175 rpm 22in oz torque merkl korff motor item# 5-1054 or the more powerful 64rpm 40in-lb tung ning motor item# 5-1588 these are both more powerful than the ones I used. The only problem is, you have to be mindful of the direction of rotation because if it rotates the wrong way you won't be able to use off the shelf springs for the auger. I had to make my own springs by using heavy gauge wire and wrapping it around 1/2in conduit. Making your own spring/auger is no big deal just remember if you use a store bought or make your own you still need to s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out so the feed can move through the coils, I also stretch it out more right where the feed drops into the coils. As far as the drive shafts go, you can connect the motor shaft to the auger shaft via fuel line hose and clamps like I did or you can do it right and use lovejoy couplers from surpluscenter.com if you have an old dril around, you can run the setup with that, I did just that while I was testing my ideas. The timer I used came from lowes it is digital because digital will allow the timer to run from as little as one minute mechanical timers wont! it is a 7 day progamable with multple on of times I believe it is a lamp timer it was around $14. BTW the geared motors from surpluscenter.com are under $10.
As for the solenoid flusher, if you can't find a good solenoid to do the job, you can just rig up a cam with a very very slow rpm to actuate a flush lever again still operating on a timer. ----------
