Hi I was just wondering if its normal for a Roller learning to spin, to spiral down like a tornado instead of spinning at times. I think its cool the way they do this.

Jesus,
How fast does it appear to be spiraling.? There is one type of spin that is slowish..with the wings outspread.. It's called plate rolling.
Then the donek nose dives as it spins.. it's a completely different breed.
If it is spinning fast with the wings outspread... sideways...that might be a twizzle. Pensom said that the twizzle was a sign of fighest quality...back in the day...

Some roller men would say that a bird that does this is not rolling properly, baised on the standars of the breed. However I have read the writings of the guy who set the standard and in this book he described a bird that rolles with considerable speed and distance but finishes off with a long tailride or other antics. He stated how birds of this type were prized.. guess its all baised on interpation... hope this helps

I wish I had a camera to take video, and yes its very fast it will start off with a 10 foot roll come out of it and spiral down fast with lots of control. its nest mate is a slower roller and not as frequent. I was given 4 pairs from some guy up in Spring Hill Florida he got them from some older man that was retiring and getting out of Rollers don't know what strain or anything about the birds but they do roll really well.
