Pretty bird. Does it have a third color? I see rec. red and blue or black. I've always thought mosaics had at least three colors.

elopez, are all three color birds considered Mosaics? I get a bunch of young birds that are red/blue grizzles on white.

Gabe,
That bird you posted bred by Bill Torres I had here at my loft in the late 90's till he died, he was off of his Frank Lavin Family with some Smith behind it, I still have a niece of his here at my loft, a 97 hen still producing but no mosaics yet, thanks for posting him brought back memories.

Means nothing to me if it is or isn't. From what I have seen, that looks to be a young mosaic. Only time will tell as it is still too young.
Why does a mosaic need three colors?
Thanks Gabe... any bird regardless of markings or color needs to prove themselves first in the air over any thing else.

Sorry if you took it the wrong way. Mosaic or not, it needs to be proven out regardless if you asked me.

Thor, That squeek looks like a black or blue grizzle. I've always been told a mosaic needs three colors showing.
Windjammer, Mosaics are not a result of color breeding, they are considered a genetic oddity as not alot are produced. The ones you get just seem to pop up unexpectedly.

I will try and get a pic of a bird owned by Sonny Hester in Tennessee. He does not breed for color. It just cropped out of regular birds. According to what I've read the three colors have to be very distinct,no fading from one color to the other. But it doesn't seem to be something you can breed for. Like a calico cat it just crops out now and then.!
