Anyone have any idea where Qualmond came from ?? or is it just a color factor that is in all Birmingham rollers?

George I beleive it was first discovered in a feral (commie) pigeon. Here's a link that deals with Almond and its alleles Qualmond if your interested.

I just read the article that mentioned qualmonds.. It said that it was "first noted" by Quinn in a feral pigeon. This does not mean that it was the first one that ever existed and that all subsequent qualmonds came from that bird. If someone thinks that they are reading too much between the lines. The Qualmond gene in my family was bred by Cornell Norwood. He told me that the bird was pure Pensom. For those of you that didn't know Cornell, he was a friend of Pensom, and he was what we called a Pensom purist, both in his roller philosophy and the birds he flew and bred. Gomez

Paul thanks paul, I did not know that Pensom(RIP) had Qualmonds.
I have a personal freind (Don M) who once lived and worked with Bill Pensom at Andrews hardware.
I will call him and ask him about the Qualmonds.

George, I visited Pensom's home twice myself. I saw one bird there that I thought was an almond. I really didn't know what the difference was until recently..so maybe the bird I saw was a qualmond. Anyways, the bird Cornell bred was a big surprise to him because he had never seen any others like it. It is lsted in my records as 72 NBRC #3220 Silver almond hen. Gomez
