I really hope this post is not against the rules.
Wondering if anyone knows where I can buy or commission someone to build me a portable kit box. I showed some pictures to my regular handyman and he kinda scratched his head. Would rather have one built by someone who has actually used one and knows what they're doing.
Plans would be ok too, as long as they are very specific.
I see Tony sells the settling cages here which is great because I will need one of those too :)

Hi Karen; If you want to fly from a wafer kit, you don't need to have anything fancy. The birds will adapt to almost any container. A large dog carrying case, for example, or even a large pigeon crate. Something that has a door on one end and a sliding top for them to drop in. You may want to put a few perches inside. I sometimes use 2 turkey crates each 36"x24"x 16" high. Al

Thanks all for your helpful advice!
I know I could make something from a dog crate, but I have this vision of a nice brightly painted wooden kitbox. The birds may not care, but aesthetics are important to me.
Once I get the hang of this, I expect people will see me in the parks and such, and I want them to be impressed with how delightful pigeons can be, in their neat little box. It may sound silly to some, but that is part of my M.O. for wanting to go mobile.

Karen;
You can make your kitbox as attractive as you wish by all means. There are some elaborate set-ups out there. The turkey crates I have used are made of hard plastic and brightly colored orange and white. At the present time I am flying out of a plain metal cage with built-in perches. Charlie Hickey lives in Hopkinton (near you) and he may still have a portable loft you could use. His phone # is 1-781-767-3866. Call him and tell him Al Perron sent you.
