Hey all, How often do you fly each week or consecutive days? Do you rest the young bird kit more or less then the old birds, or the hens more then the cocks? Do you push them harder when training for comp. or less just before the day?
Thanks, Thom

I fly youngsters every day I can , once my young birds are solid in the roll when young every other day, once mature every three days, sometimes more and sometimes less. As for setting up for comps, that is a different topic. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

I usally fly my young twice a day until they go trough the Y.B molt. my older birds I fly every 2nd or 3rd day. I dont keep my birds primed all the time however I try to keep them in good conidition. I strip them down with epson salt in their water once a month, and "Hog Feed" them once every ten day's, all this means is that I will feed them as much as they will consume over the corse of a couple of hours, getum supper fat.. This has worked really well..
hope this helps...Square ---------- "Home of the Ghost Town Roller" K.C.R.C

Ditto to what Scott said. You cant fly young too much.If you have the time fly them 2 times a day. The older birds that are working hard need the rest or you will start getting birds hitting or the roll will deteriate dramatically. Flying my old bird teams every 3rd day has always worked best for me. Joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/

Hey Joe, Thanks for the input, I'm in my second year of holding a very tight family and therefore I'm flying youngbirds with the holdover hens. Possibly not the best scenario but so far it seems to be working. As my family expands I will be able to produce more young that are the same age and vicariously large kits of only young birds.

Thom I am in a similar situation. Got 14 first round and about that many in the second. With the age difference I cant put them together...yet. With an empty kitbox I`ll put this round in it and move the faster developers up to the next kit,I hope in time to make room for the last group of 12 or so. Its a juggling act to get em all in the air before you move them around and confuse thier little pea brains. ---------- V99

Also the young birds have to developed the muscle if not they will not handle the roll and roll down that is one problem I learn. Feeding them not enough or breaking a young bird is a no no.
When the birds are young and have not roll or drop 5 feet I fly them twice a day for 30 minutes rest 2 days of the week.
Ones they start to drop 5 feet I put them with the B team and fly every other day. Some times you need to rest more and some times less. Depending how they are flying and rolling. If they are getting stiff flying less and feed less. And the other way if they are bumping or too frequent fly more and feed more.
I mess up one kit for flying them too hard and they got stiff.
This is working better now than what I was doing before with my birds.
Know what to feed your birds as the young birds need more protein to grow than the older birds. I fly my young birds on 15% and the older birds with 12%. Later I change my young team to 12% when they start to flip a lot more.

Hey fellas hope all is well. I fly my young birds at least twice a day or untill they all start to kit and start to work together. Then it breaks down to about 1 time a day and off for the weekend. Thats just me. I fly my youngsters hard but lately been real busy working and my system is not on point. Its hard to really stick with a systm and stay on point.
