I would like to breed white bar Ruby Rollers. Now THAT would BE RARE! Could I get more money for them?
Will they roll? Or will that be rare too? Thanks in advance for any advice. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Hey Tony I don't have any advise but if what you have is not broke why fix it. I don't think you'll get any more money then the head ache of trying to change something thats not in what you have already. Good Luck no matter what.

I agree with Silver.
However Spanky has some white bars. I think he uses them as fosters though. Not sure where he got them from but he said the breeder did have some very nice ones in the air. Maybe you guys can trade some ruby's for some white bars. LOL.
White bars look nice so you may get a bit more for them but that's if their performance is up to par with your Ruby's. ---------- Efren Lopez SGVS

The light powdered blue white bar rollers were very popular but only a few bred and flew them. I saw a few that could perform decent but the majority were poor performers. A good breeder would have a better chance to succeed in breeding and flying quality white bars. Brian Van Buskirk is presently breeding and flying white bars in California. It was at least fifty years ago that I saw my first white bars. Ray Sanchez.

Tony, just locate a few blue white bar rollers that are proven in the air. Being Od (dominant opal) you could raise white bar Ruby Rollers in one generation, though they would only be half your blood line. Its very easy to do, but I know you wouldn't do such a thing.

If I remember there was a fanicer who lived in your neck of the woods who raised Silver White Bar Badges, (70's) talk to Ray Sanchez he will remember. If you are serious about this then the greed factor is taking over......Glenn

White Bars?
NOTE: "It is certain that colors and markings cannot be cultivated without a decided loss in the quality of deep spinning". **W.H. Pensom
...also "To clarify my findings, so far as color goes, I refer to reds, yellows and whites and combinations of the same... as soft colors... and denoting weakness of character as well.
Blue checkers, red checkers and duns, I call the hard colors and which I believe are indicative of stronger character. It is among these latter colored birds we find the most stabilized spinners, whereas among the soft colors we find the unstable spinner." **W.H. Pensom

I think Tony has secretly taken a poll, you know who will respond, who will take him serious. RARE LOL will they roll LOL. Who knows genetics ect. How many women will vote for Hilery as asposed to how many Democrats will cross over and vote for McCain, you know that kind of stuff. Hey California taxes its citizens with out them even knowing it. It's called the Lottery. That dream vacation you want to take to Hawaii that has cost you $18,000.00 dollars so far. Think about it. OK I'm guessing Tony has too much time on his hands, lets all order something to keep him busy this week. I recomend the books by Pemsom and WInners with Spinners and a flag, stop using that empy feed sack on the end of a hoe. Bill C

Tony might possibly be interested in a white bar as an experiement, note possibly. I would think that he has enough on his plate trying to keep all his frogs in the jar that I doubt he is serious. It would be like Billings posting a pic of his new opal toy stencil foundation cockbird. T is a purist in every since of the word. He pursued the lines with the best genetics and purest bloodlines to insure that the Ruby`s would produce in kind even unflown. For him to breed for non performance trait is unbelieveable.
However, on paper the genetics can be plotted and a relatively close conclusion to how many generations and what birds would be needed to produce the white barred roller.
Anyone, Dave?

KGB`s favorite the ice pigeon. I found this excerpt interesting.
Before drawing this composition to an end, I should answer a question that was put to me in regards to my relationship with Ice Pigeons. Being asked to assess my contribution to the breed isn't an easy query to answer. As far as the breed in general is concerned, I do think that I've been able to help more than just a few fanciers learn something about them. I'm also somewhat sure that my muffed family of Ice helped some fanciers to either get a fairly nice start in them or my birds helped to improve their own stud. But I feel that my involvement in clean legged Ice Pigeons in the United States has been my greatest contribution. Since my restart in Ice I looked for clean legs and while I managed to locate Forellens it wasn't until 1983 that White Barreds and Barless were added to my loft. These were imports that were included with the many rare performing breeds that Dan Konen brought into the country. Up until that time, the vast majority of non Forellen clean legs that could be found were, for a lack of more descriptive words, very poor in quality. Prior to the imports, crosses between Damascenes and other breeds were being passed off as clean legged Ice. While some people might say that a Damascene's outer plumage coloration is pretty close to an Ice's, the Damascene's other features are very unlike those of an Ice Pigeon. The results of these crosses and other experiments left much to be desired. But with the imports this changed. The imports had certain faults, but by using key muffed Ice and culling with a very heavy hand, I was rewarded with some very outstanding youngsters. Many of these youngsters not only won the Ice classes at shows, they also went on to bring home the title of Champion Rare at many of the Rare Breeds Pigeon Club meets that were held on the east coast. And as I mentioned earlier in this article, I made use of my Barless clean legs to improve the ground coloration of my Forellens.

Tony, First you would have to find some "nice" white bars. Then very quietly purchase them. Next you would claim that you had a mutation in your loft. LOOK EVERYBODY!!!
Chango Presto…. White Bar Ruby Rollers.
OR
Find some rare color rollers enjoy flying them for what they are, and sell them as what they are.
Have fun with your project or Have fun……… Um…….
